Not sure people understand the historical pretext of the 1st amendment. And it's quite clear from historical documents that "separation of church and state" currently means exactly opposite of what it originally meant.


Also from Jeffersons own words "Power to prescribe any religious excercise must rest with the States". But what's truly amazing in Records from 1789 clearly show never were the words mentioned of Seperation of Church and State.

Whether someone has a liberal, or conservative viewpoint, a authoritative figure should not lock a thread for the sole purpose to get the last word in all the while prohibiting someone else from being able to respond.

  Like I previously said,  if I were in her position,  unless I received legal advice to do otherwise,  I would resign.   But there's absolutely no circumstance in the world that would lead me to issue the licenses or have someone else in the department issue them as long as I'm head of the department.   

 

She can't be fired so why resign? What is happening is exactly what she wants.

 

She will be impeached in a few months and then she will get her book deal, probably a documentary by Dinesh D'Souza, go on the right wing talk show circuit. Maybe even get her own show on Fox.

Yeah, it's so unfair.  I can't go get elected as a county clerk and refuse to give black people marriage licenses.  Or interracial couples.  Because it goes against my beliefs.  I have to go against them to 'respect' or appease others.

It's very possible that resigning is the only viable option for Kim Davis.   I think Kim Davis should speak to as many highly qualified attorneys as possible though.

Not sure Book of Mormon, Quran, Bible or any other faith documents have disallowed blacks from marrying.

I am not even a fan of Kim. But I do think this country has bastardized the 1st amendment and we have plent of historical text from our founders that prove it. It is now the complete opposite of its intent.

Why not?  If it's a sincerely held belief, why can't we?  Why do 'established' religions get preference?  All that should matter is that it's a sincerely held belief.

Why not? If it's a sincerely held belief, why can't we? Why do 'established' religions get preference? All that should matter is that it's a sincerely held belief.

I wouldn't do it but I get why she is doing it. Quite frankly the people need to fix the problem. Do not elect people who won't fulfill their duties.

The Judge told her if she interferes she'll go to prison.  At this point she just wants to be a martyr for her cause.  Of course reasonable people will see that she's no martyr, and that she's putting herself in jail by not following the court order to not interfere with other clerks doing their job.  She doesn't need a lawyer.  A little common sense would go a long way.

Except I'm not a Pastor in this scenario.  I'm a court clerk, and I'm not allowing my employees to issue marriage certificates to interracial couples.
