2 dead, including reporter and photographer, after gunman opens fire on TV crew in Virginia

Really we need to think about the victims. And their families who's lives are also changed forever. And their colleagues. Heard nothing but good and sweet things about the two.

Interesting stuff to read before calling for more gun control.

Quote:Your idea (British and/or Australian) idea of "conservative" is very different from the American idea.

Australia is more conservative than Britain.

But yes admittedly you guys win for conservative crazies.

Quote:Interestingly enough it was a conservative government that brought in gun control in Australia. Sensible policies will gain support from both sides .

Can't be bothered with your propaganda.

Australian murder rate at record low and not one mass shooting has occurred since the laws.

You like guns I get it.

You seem to miss the point. Stopping guns isn't about stopping crime. Most crime is unarmed anyway.

It is simply about stopping people being killed by lunatic gunmen. Australia is much safer than the US in this regard.

Lunatic gunmen going on killing sprees is a statistical anomaly. You see it more frequently in the US because it has a much greater population than all western nations. You are much much more likely to be murdered by a impoverished minority in America than by a lunatic gunmen.

Australia has an extremely homogeneous community. The United States, not so much. The United States biggest crime statistic is black on black violence. Resolve that and the US crime statistic goes down dramatically. You will still have lunatic gunmen, but again, statistical anomaly.

The total confiscation of guns from private citizens may have worked in Australia, or it may just be that the gun murder rate in Australia was dropping and the confiscation of guns had no effect.

In any case confiscating guns in the US is not an option. Unlike Australia, US  citizens would not just bow down to the rulers and wet their pants if the government demanded we turn over our best means of self defense.

I don't think Australians are as worried as you lot about defending themselves.

Government should fear the people not vice versa. That's why we have democracy.

Hey I'm cool with the constitution. I'm not the one talking about changing the meaning of the constitution for political points.

I am not sure what you are implying, friend.

Black on black violence, white on white violence, and black on white violence have been normalized. It doesn't spark public outrage and isn't as easily promoted by the media because it is widespread.

However, statistical anomalies such as shooting sprees and white on black violence are much more rare and thus much easier to promote and create media buzz.

Hope that clears things up for you.

I implied nothing. It also seems I interpreted your original post correctly.

I was just trying to help you understand the volatile crime situation in America and how being killed by a lunatic gunmen on a shooting spree would be highly unlikely. I think I might have offended someone in the process. Oops!
