Fire Special Teams Coordinator Mike Mallory

Quote:I used to read Ask Vic religiously. I gave up on the O-zone a long time ago.

Vic's specialty was hyping up undrafted free agents that amounted to nothing. Charles Sharon, Julius Williams are in the Ask Vic Hall of Fame.

Quote:I hope the Jaguars are paying O-man well. They asked him to leave his manhood at the door when he took the job.

And yet he's writing for the Jaguars and you're posting comments about him on your lunch break.

And let me tell you. I am just super shocked that you agree with him. Just super shocked.

Quote:I don't think you understand how his job works.

He was asked, basically, if Mallory was coming back. Since Oesher has sources with the Jaguars, working for them and all, he said Mallory is coming back, and gave reasons why.

Would you prefer he lie to you? And why do you read him if he "just parrots everything the team tells him to say" and you think you're so much smarter anyway?

I look forward to your columns in the near future.

I have no problem with thim reporting what he has been told. I find it funny he says "First, if you’re going to get rid of a coach you need to make sure you replace him with someone better. That will be difficult with Mallory, who is a very good special teams coach who would have a job the next day if he weren’t retained by the Jaguars". We have seen a disaster on special teams this year to the extent most people have never seen before. Aside from a few trick plays last week and Todman having a solid KR average, special teams has been a horror show.

Questioning a columnist's manhood because he differs from your terrific insight and knowledge? How sad is that.

His heading was great - I bet you triple-dog dared him. That's about your level.

And people always give too much credit to coaches.

The coach isn't the reason the RB completely whiffed his blocking assignment for the punt.

The coach change wouldn't fix that. Those missed blocks are on young players that either will get better or get replaced. NOTHING about the coaches special teams scheme is creating these few problems people seem to blow up.

Our Sts coverage wasn't great last year but we didn't have blocked kicks often (if at all?) last season.

Let's swap coaches, that'll make these kids fresh of the scrap heap or fresh outta college play better.

Hey remember when Sullivan was lauded as one of the best coaches for WRs, yadda yadda?

Why our guys keep dropping passes? Fire Sullivan?

Think about it...

Special teams is just bad because we have soooo many young guys.  Give it 3 years and we'll be better because our focus is on getting better every day.  We compete out there.  We're just so young.  We have so many rookies playing key roles.

One of these years.............

I mean - how dare he differ from what you think. I mean, who does he think he is!

Should he just do a poll (people on here seem to love polls) and tailor his column accordingly?

Do people not understand what he does, who he works for? And yet some take it so personally.

Quote:Did you especially enjoy Vic's columns about how Gene Smith was the answer? Or was it the good ol' days of the Steelers that had you hanging on every word?

I disagreed strongly about Gene Smith from the moment he traded a future 2nd round pick to draft Derek Cox. I didn't mind Vic's Steeler references too much, since he had a good grasp of NFL history and the Steeler anecdotes were not in every column, or even every week, although I agree they were excessive. But the main thing is that Vic wasn't ALWAYS apologizing and making up excuses for the errors the Jags made. As just one example he voiced his displeasure about the Reggie Williams pick from the start. He also didn't try to be funny in just about every response.

Since I stopped reading Oesher long ago maybe I missed it, but when has he ever criticized a decision by the Jags?

What good is a columnist without an opinion? He may as well be the Jaguars press secretary.

I think the dude needs to give it a break for a while on the O-Zone.  He's more defensive of the team than I've ever seen.

Well, he has recruited a minion army to see things the way he sees them, so maybe his plan is working...

You clearly either don't have a clue or you don't read him. But continue to build that straw man - I bet you can take him.

What makes Mike Mallory "a very good special teams coach"?

It's the whole Jaguars media that is turning into complete apologist for all things Jags.  I know as fans that we don't know the ins and outs but I think there is an arrogance from the people "in the know" that they are the only ones that can be right.  It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that the team sucks and isn't getting better.  But, I'm just a lowly fan who doesn't know football.

Agreed. He does seem very defensive every time someone questions "the plan".
