Dave Caldwell Is No Longer Your GM

Quote:Caldwell got neutered and deservingly so. He had four years to get this right and failed; now he has someone over his head stamping his questionable moves.

He didn't get neutered. Khan just made sure he had someone unbiased to report to him.

^That.  That that that^^^^

Quote:I'm not sure I'd go that far. It could be that Khan didn't really replace or demote Caldwell. Khan replaced himself with a surrogate- Coughlin. Coughlin takes some of Khan's duties. Caldwell is still in the same position. I'm just speculating, of course, but that's what makes the most sense to me.

No way.

That makes too much sense.

What questionable moves?
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

When he signed the two biggest performers on defense and then drafted the other two biggest performers on defense I was certainly left scratching my head.

Yeah I was really concerned about all the talent on offense that he drafted too. Puzzling that we would want guys on our team breaking franchise records in 2015. Despite the abysmal coaching.

Quote:In your words, show me some proof.
I dont know what else to say for you to understand Tom Coughlin is the Jaguars now. Its his team, hes going to mold it the way he wants and Caldwell will be right by his side. They like Caldwell or else he would of been fired. Coughlin is going to have have the final say and both the GM and coach will work with him, report to him and he will have the final say on the roster. Coughlin is already working with Marrone on the coaching staff changes. Caldwell got demoted, this isnt a golf buddy for Shad Khan to give Khan his opinion of what Caldwell is going to do. He was the one that retained Marrone, hes been the guy on Khans radar since Bradley was fired. Most of you should be aware of Tom Coughlin, he isnt going to settle for a consulting job. He wouldn't have taken this job if that were the case. Thats not like Tom Coughlin. Hes here because the team has been a disaster and Khan wants a different set of eyes making the decisions. I think they like Caldwell a lot, but they need results. I think Dave will learn a bit from Coughlin and in a few years, if the team is in better shape, Caldwell has full control again. They simply need a quick turn around and to start winning again. Khan probably thinks a Super Bowl caliber coach with tons of NFL experience is just the guy to get things turned around in a better direction. Im sure Caldwell and Coughlin will be working side by side in every offseason move, but Coughlin will have the final say.

The local media, Shad Khan, the Jaguars Press release, it all is confirming Coughlin as the guy now with Caldwell and Marrone reporting to him. Im not sure what else to tell you to convince you. This isnt a bad move, this is a good thing. We need to start winning, we need better decision making. Caldwell is a very talented NFL executive, but hes obviously not had the smoothest 4 years so they have brought in experience to get the team turned around in a better direction. At the end of the day, the NFL is a results driven business and the Jaguars aren't getting results and have not since 2007. Maybe this move works out, maybe it doesnt. But yes, Tom Coughlin is your VP of Football Operations with everyone reporting to him.

I look forward to the press conference tomorrow at 10am.

Quote:You really think, or even want a 70 year old Coughlin logging hundreds and hundreds of hours traveling to see draft prospects, scouting players for the draft and FA. You really think Coughlin is going to be breaking down game film for draft prospects? Do you have any clue how many hours goes into scouting all of these players? Caldwell and crew has been doing work on this year's draft class, since at least 1 1/2 years ago.

You really think Caldwell is going to do all this work and present it to Coughlin, then let Coughlin just blindly pick who he wants? No chance.
Your acting like Tom is about to strap on a helmet and play QB for us. We just elected a 70 year old to run the country. Flying around in a billionaires jet isnt going to be too stressful. Coughlin and Caldwell will be working hand in hand, Caldwell will be in the same role he has been in, only difference is he has a boss now. Yes, Coughlin will have the final say. He will be directly involved with drafting, signing free agents, cutting players and resigning players. This isnt that complicated, other franchises are doing this as well. Both Tom Coughlin and Caldwell will be there hand in hand making the decisions for this team. Coughlin will have the final say, its being reported, its a fact now. Its been a fact since the move was made, I just think people are shocked that this still happened.

Tom Coughlin isnt going to be Shad Khans golfing buddy telling him what he thinks about the team from time to time. He is the VP Of Football Operations. Look it up, its a big role. He is the final say on the roster. He was brought here because the team has been sucking.

Your acting like Caldwell does all the scouting by hand. You know that we have scouts for a reason right? Yea, I'm sure its long hours being a GM, but hey, it pays well. Coughlin im sure will be going over a lot of game film with Dave Caldwell, but they have every piece of technology and resource at their disposal. Its not like hes going from town to town scouting players at the game. They send scouts to look at players. The GM watches the film, reviews the analysis and makes the decision.

Tom Coughlin is your VP of Football Operations, same as Shack Harris, Caldwell answers directly to him. They both will be working together but absolutely, as of right now, this is the Tom Coughlin era as the personnel guy for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

That is basically getting neutered. Khan is basically saying he needs a babysitter and he no longer has confidence in the guy, but he is too afraid to fire him, so he in turn hires two men to do the job of one guy.

Coughlin isn't doing Caldwell's job. He's doing Khan's job.

He is approving or negating everything Caldwell does. Caldwell will answer to Coughlin on everything. That's pretty much being neutered.

Another question. If Khan didn't want to be involved, why did he buy a football team? It makes no sense to me.

Coughlin is in charge of the final 53, its demotion by promotion.

I'd say what we will see though is that Caldwell and Coughlin will be working together on the draft free agency etc etc. I don't think it will be Coughlin telling Caldwell what to do, more so they will work as a team in order to get it right.

The biggest one is keeping the Guster around way too long.

I wonder how long ago Gus would have been let go if TC had already been here? No way he would have stayed around as long as he did, just no way.

I know some might also say the BB5 pick at #3 was questionable, but the Jags really really needed a QB, and needed one badly. Unfortunately it looks like picking BB5 instead of Carr at #3 is not going to turn out to be a positive pick for DC, especially since the Jag's coaches coached Carr in the Senior Bowl.

Also the Fowler pick at #3 seems a little questionable too at this time, although Fowler has played better of late and with a different defensive scheme, hopefully, he will be an even more improved player next season.

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

Khan has plenty of other businesses and sports franchises to attend to, as well as the Jaguars. He simply cannot be in Jacksonville 24/7. Coughlin will be his educated eyes and ears in the building, at all times.

It's really not that hard to grasp, in all honesty. That is, unless you're trying to make this into something more than it really is.

tl;dr Kahn made Coughlin King. Everything goes through the King(Caldwell/Marrone on down), and the King reports to Lord Kahn. The end.

So again, I'll say, it was never Caldwells job or duty or responsibility to fire Gus. It was khan's. Tom coughlin was hired to do khan's job, not Caldwells.

Who wouldn't want to own a football team? Khan is a business man. If anything he saw the return from the investment. Which for him has been huge so far.

Sounds like Khan is wanting to build the business and wants to allow more experienced minds to build the football side.
