Shad bringing out the big guns

Quote:We don't even know that it's that, it could be entirely Caldwell's initiative. I hope they are all working together on this, the decision is a huge one,

Don't think its a matter of trust at all. It's already been mentioned a number of pro and college teams have used their services and being able to directly contact a potential coach more "behind the scenes" is a huge advantage.

This is all happening as it should be......a collective effort of Khan, Lamping, Caldwell....and yes Tony too as they find a new HC

for the future of this team. Besides....seems to be drafting players, hiring free agents and building a teams roster is waaaaay different than hiring a head coach.

Good luck Jaguars.....the great news from yesterday was we DO have a team that can win....and win handily given an experienced professional coach. I think 2017 will surprise us all.

Because Jaguars is our mantra  Wallbash

Quote:John Idzik to the Jets and Hue Jackson to the Browns are some blunders.

It shows a lack of faith in Caldwell, after Khan said Dave would lead the search.
How could he have faith in the guy who hired Gus and then extended his contract after averaging about 4 wins per year?

Quote:Its obvious Khan doesn't trust Caldwell to hire the right coach this time, seeing he FAILED his first go around.. My question is why keep the guy if you don't trust him?

I think a big part of this is that he's giving Caldwell the resources to grow and make better decisions.

Caldwell hinted that there were things he failed at with Gus, and I think this is part of it.  I don't believe he and Khan moved quickly enough or did enough to push Gus into growing into the HC position.  They sat back and watched while he withered on the vine.

Bringing in these guys is a way for Khan to deal with Dave differently than he did with Gus.  If he doesn't produce an A+ HC given this level of support, then he's certainly next man up on the chopping block.

Hue Jackson couldn't lead a 3-13 team to a decent record after they jettisoned a bunch of vets. I know I could have done better from my couch. Amiright?

If Khan is about to open the checkbook big time for a new head coach, i.e. 6 to 12 million per year, I don't blame him for getting a second opinion.

Shoot, I just bought a new laptop and I bugged the Best Buy kid for 18 hours straight.

Quote:I disagree w/both sentiments...

First off, Mr. Khan doesn't select/evaluate the HCoaching hiring. That's what he hired a GM for per his sentiments. Caldwell hires and fires HIS HC. Mr. Khan has simply given Caldwell additional opinions to which to select from.

Secondly, if our new HC doesn't produce within his first year tenor, Caldwell won't be fired. Fired after only One Year? We gave Bradley 3.90 years to get it right and now we're only going to give the new HC one year to be successful, and if he's not we're going to fire our GM!

NH3...
One.  While is partially Dave's fault. The owner is the Ceo so has the final say at all times.  Two that team was a dumpster fire,   This one is very talented just had no discipline.  And yes see Khan soccer team.  He fired that coach in one year. So could he do the same?  Without a doubt.

nope your wrong. see the giants 2012-2015 and you will see two seasons starting 2-6 and 2-8.  And the one before it won like 7 games straight and then crumbled.  So no Tom is a big name and older.

Why people think 71 does not matter. Will never know.

I think we should be thankful he knows he doesn't know and is willing to hire someone who does as opposed to letting pride get in the way and we get another scrub for a coach.

I think it's extra research I would imagine. There's no unknown coach out there, I mean c'mon. If they did hire some unknown coach, wheww this place will be 'fun'.

There's nothing wrong or unusual about hiring a search firm to aid in filling a top notch position. It is prudent to acquire all the information you can on individuals while eliminating some prior to the interview process.

Adding to what you mentioned, time is of the essence for the Jaguars.   There's already two other NFL teams that have fired their HC,  the Rams and the Bills.   More openings are coming.

Chargers definitely opening too. Definitely dont want to wait things out or make this a drawn out process. Hope we are quick but leave no stone unturned.

Todd Haley, Josh McDaniels, Mike Smith, Tom Coughlin, Anthony Lynn, Kyle Shanahan, Vance Joseph, Terryl Austin, Dave Toub, Jim Bob Cooter. Off the top of my head I really like all these guys.

I totally agree regarding the Chargers HC position opening.  Mike McCoy is in an extremely difficult situation but that's not going to save his job.  Even with the Spanos Family heavily focused on the decision whether to move to Chargers to the Los Angeles area,  it's hard to picture McCoy getting another year.

All of the coaches you mentioned are well worth considering.   Though my gut feeling is the Jaguars would be better off hiring a HC with NFL HC  experience if everything is close to equal,   a case can be made for all of the assistant coaches you mentioned deserving an NFL HC opportunity in 2017.

Of the two Lions Coordinators,  i think Teryl Austin is more ready to be a HC in 2017 than Jim Bob Cooter.   The age and experience factors are the primary reasons.  Both are highly regarded by the players that they coach.   Cooter is on a path to become an NFL HC but I think he's at least a year away.  As a Defensive Coordinator,  Austin does a good job trying to adjust to the personnel he's coaching,  not forcing players to do things they aren't that well suited to do.

Jim Bob Cooter is the name of a real person? Poor fellow.

Good grief, if every business executive got fired for bringing in consultants....

Oh, never mind.
