I still have hope for Blake Bortles!

Quote:Lol...Is he really using the same play book?

Jesus...

If that's true...Olsen really sucks at play calling....

It appears to be the same book of plays.  Just some minor tweaking, more creative timing on calling certain plays situationally, and a few minor changes in the run blocking. But the plays themselves are largely the same.

Hackett is calling more "extensions" of many of the same plays that Olson was calling however.

Quote:IIRC, the "garbage time" thing was dispelled in another thread a while back.... But you're entitled to your opinion...

Yeah, there was very little actual "garbage time" in Blake's stats last season.  But there were many games in which the offense abandoned the run early and the Jags were playing from down 10 points or more early in the game.

Playing from behind on the scoreboard in the second quarter is certainly not "garbage time" but it will inflate a QB's stats.

I remember going through and looking at his TDs when this was brought up a while back.  Looking through my posts I found the post I had and found that he had 3 no doubt garbage time TDs, 2 against NE and one against NO.  After that it's pretty subjective.  Is bringing your team to 11 points down with 4 and a half minutes left garbage time?  Or bringing them within 7 with a minute left?  Honestly, I don't think anyone could legitimately argue that any more that 5 or 6 of his TDs were garbage time.

As bad a QB1 as Blake is right now, he's still slightly better than Superman Cam is as a QB (not an athlete). Plus, I'll take Blake's maturity every time.

Bring in veteran competition and competent coaching and let's see what we have.
I dont know what most of those numbers are without labels, but no one actually watching games would believe Blake is better than Cam. You can pull up blakes inflated numbers all you want it wont change anything. And bringing in some journeyman isnt gonna make blake suck less either.

I came up with exactly 397 yards and 5 TDs that came in garbage time from Blake in 2015.  Removing those from his 2015 stats still made him the 11th most productive QB in the league.

The numbers don't lie.  Those are this year's stats pulled from nfl.com.

Comp Att Pct Att/G Yds Avg Yds/G TD Int 1st 1st% Lng 20+ 40+ Sck Rate

Statistically, he's a slightly better QB at playing QB, not RB.  Cam's clearly the superior athlete.

None of that is to say that Blake has looked good.  And while he's in the bottom third of starting QBs, he is not the worst.  We need to have some perspective.  He's playing badly.  It's cost us games.  He needs fixed.  Bringing in a veteran for insurance and competition will help.  Good coaching will help, too.  Then, let's see how good he can be.

Whenever you look at a qb like cam, one must take into account his rushing yards and touchdowns.

Yeah, Bortles is clearly the better choice.

Speaking of Cam, anyone have any gifs of his mechanics vs Blake's? Or vs Blake's 2015 mechanics where he was a bit better.
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

Lol, Cam is clearly the better candidate if you have a great defense, strong running game, all Pro tight end and good coaching.

Otherwise he's a bottom third QB in this league.

If Cam is in the bottom third ?? Where is Bortles at? Cam is overall a better Qb then Bortles.. He is better then him in every way .. Accuracy,Arm Strength, Football IQ,Agility, Speed only thing Blake is about equal with is his toughness.. If Can had this team even with Gus as coach we would be a 9 win team.. But there is a shot for Bottles to become better.. I just don't believe it will be in this lifetime.. Lol

Lol, Bortles is right there in the bottom third with him. Cammie just benefits from the environment, that's why, with the lessening of that advantage this year, he looks like hot garbage on Tuscon street.

And yet, Blake is slightly better in passing stats and rating.  Cam is clearly the better runner and athlete.  I challenge your claims of Cam being better on accuracy and football IQ.  The stats don't bear that out.

Cam has like 5 td's rushing and 350 yards Bortles has 3 td's and 338 yards. Not a huge difference this year in rushing.

Also Cam is at 52% completion this year.

Saw good throws and lots of stuff that can be worked on in the offseason.  All comes down to the coaching selection.  I'm not worried about him "learning" a new system.  Guy will have to fight for a job anyway.  Those that fight through adversity are better for it in the end.

The BB5 of the last 2 weeks, for whatever reason we didn't see him earlier, is good enough to win 10 games with this roster.
