In the $30K & under venue, what do you think is the best vehicle for the money?

Quote:I'm in the market as well. The old Caddy finally died on me.I have a family member that sold them back around 2007-2010. He said they got better every year. I rented a sonata a while back and it was nice. The front wheel drive affected the feel of steering a little too much for my taste - but I'm accustomed to AWD or RWD cars. Still - I've driven Hondas and VWs that didn't have that mildly odd feeling in the steering wheel that I got from the Sonata. They have great warranties and customer approval ratings. I have an aunt that just bought an Elantra and she loves it. I drove it one day and could not really find any issues with it. One surprising thing is I am 6'2 and it seemed to have enough leg room for me. Not always the case with smaller cars.

Hyundai is rivalling Honda and Toyota in style and catching up to them in quality. Quote:I'm in the market as well. The old Caddy finally died on me. Caddys, Hyundai's are you like 60?

Did anyone think, twenty years ago (or maybe even ten), we'd be talking about cars from Korea? Korea!
And not laughing our butts off? Amazing. Now they're just another car. And there are getting better every few years.

Quote:I'm in the market as well. The old Caddy finally died on me. With most Korean cars you get what you pay for. If you buy cheap you're getting horrid gray, plastic box. If you're willing to spend money you can get a good car. Quote:Hyundai has come a long way. I love the Sonata. I don't own one but I work at Carmax and have driven most cars. Appreciate the feedback everyone!
Quote:Caddys, Hyundai's are you like 60? Not even close. But I did get the Caddy from my grandma lol.

Quote:lol, so you drive around in your toaster?...My wife and I rented a car in Hawaii a couple years back, and the Kia Toaster was what we ended up with. All things considered, it was a surprisingly solid car, and handled paved mountain roads well. Ok gas mileage and decent performance. I still wouldn't buy one, but it was far better than the Kia Rio we ended up with during our honeymoon in North Carolina back in 2007. That thing was a complete joke. I'd floor the car going up a 6-degree incline on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and it would still lose speed. Quote:I've been sent to dealerships at the company's request to mediate an end-user's complaint many times and the bottom line was always to make the dealership happy, not the end-user. My first encounter with the dealership manager before we talked to the end-user was to ascertain from him whether he wanted the end-user to be a repeat customer. From there we proceeded to tackle his issue and my decision was always in accordance with the dealership's preference. That jives with a lot of things I've heard from a friend who works with one of the major US manufacturers in a customer support role. When he's sent out to handle an end-user complaint, the first thing he does is ask the dealership GM how they want the problem resolved. He then sits and talks with everyone, and his decision is always exactly what the dealership wants it to be. Ford doesn't care if there's something wrong with your two-week-old Focus, nor do they care if you go and tell ten friends never to buy a Ford. They care that the dealership is happy with their support, and that even if your ten friends don't buy a Focus this year, over a million people will anyway. Quote:I'm in the market as well. The old Caddy finally died on me.Not first-hand, but I do know a handful of people who've owned them. 2008 would be my cutoff year. Anything before that was pretty much junk. Afterwards, they improved gradually year-to-year. A 2011's probably worth a test drive. Quote:New Audi A3 Sedan. Or that new cheap Mercedes. Expensive to maintain. Just know what you are getting yourself into.
Quote:Did anyone think, twenty years ago (or maybe even ten), we'd be talking about cars from Korea? Korea! Isn't Hyundai a Korean car?.....and they've been around since the 1980's. Quote:Isn't Hyundai a Korean car?.....and they've been around since the 1980's.I think they started importing to the US anround '86. They weren't taken very seriously until the late-nineties as anything but bargain basement, basic transport. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Not a thing wrong with Korean cars nowadays. Stylish and dependable, not to mention affordable. I just returned from Korea and 95% of the vehicles on their roads are Korean made. They've come a long way in the last 10-15 years.
If bulletproof is what you want, I would choose a Toyota Tacoma in a heartbeat. I've owned two and they're the best thing I've ever had, with an 80s Subaru sedan being the next in line (it was reliable but not nearly as desirable.) For a single guy it's easy to pack up and go wherever, whenever you need to if you're an outdoors person.

I had a Toyota Tundra not too long ago and it was great, never had much of an issue with it -- save for one I knew I was creating. The only reason I got rid of it was that it was just too small for me. I actually sold it to a family member who still raves about the thing.
I had a part time job here recently where I drove pretty much every new car out there. I'd say, Toyota Camry Hybrid, Lincoln MKZ hybrid, Toyota Corolla hybrid are your best bets. You never revealed what size vehicle you were looking for so I just listed the top vehicles I liked under thirty (accept the Lincoln which is over 30)

They've come a long way in the last 10-15 years. Debatable. Quote:Debatable. Many models still have a way to go, but take a peek at the latest kia optima or Hyundai genesis. Definitely stylish.
I think the Optima is a pretty sweet looking car. Definitely in the upper range of coolness for that price category.
I mean, what is more stylish for that price? Maybe a Ford Fusion? I guess you can get a base Camaro or Mustang around that price possibly. |
