That was months ago. He's continued to somehow get away and thrive playing that way. Even in big games against good defenses. He's won me over over time.

Yeah, I'm not saying that I didn't ever have the negative opinion on Manziel that I posted but after Manziel keeps succeeding for 2 seasons now despite playing the way he does, against a variety of teams, and culminating in the improbable comeback win yesterday, its time to give credit where do. I concede. He's won me over.

Yeah, cuz nfl defenders are good at blanketing receivers for 5+ seconds. That's why a good pass rush is only a luxury.

I didn't think his style could sustain. It was an honest take from 4 months ago. Against the odds it has not only sustained, but thrived. 

In the last 4 months he has been a hair away from major knee and shoulder injuries. If anything that should cement the playstyle/injury worries for when he is going against bigger/stronger/faster defenders.

KYJaggy, like I said, Quarterbacks that cannot escape pass rushes and have no pocket presence are at an equal injury to risk. A blitzing safety hitting a non-mobile QB from the blindside is not something you want to see.

Ok, but there are 2 (and I argue 3) other franchise QB prospects in this draft that have both mobility and pocket presence. I honestly just can't see how people have Johnny ranked above Teddy or Bortles. His upside is at best a hair higher and his risk is waaaaay higher.

TMD, I agree. I'd rather have a QB that can avoid a pass-rush than a QB that is going to get rocked in the pocket and can't pick up a blitz read.

But we aren't comparing Manziel w/ a statue in the pocket. We're comparing him to the other top of the draft QB prospects who also have mobility and pocket presence. In which case, I would say the bigger injury risk is the guy who not only is far smaller, but also doesn't know how to protect himself and has a history of very close calls.

You need to re-watch it.....on the left sideline, the play was to fake to Labhart (the guy jumping) in the slot so that the safety and corner would bite on the decoy....the corner bit but the safety didn't and the split end might have run out of end zone.....his 2nd read was Evans coming across the middle at the ten who had a step but for some reason slowed down and the defender was on him.....he steps up in the pocket, does his escape....Labhart, the original decoy is till standing there with a defender near keeping him close.....when Johnny rolls right and threatens to run, the defender leaves Labhart and goes after Johnny.....Johnny throws to Labhart and he runs up the sideline for a 19yd TD. He might have been able to hit the split end but it would have been flirting with the back of the end zone. What I don't understand is Evens slowing down when he had a good step or 2.....that 2nd read could have been a much easier touchdown. He had to do it the hard way.

 

No one knows what his progressions truly was. But the outside WR came open immediately on a double move when he was looking to that side of the field. This is not the only time he has missed an open WR to try to scramble instead. Its a real problem he needs to fix.

I'm not a fan of Manziel, but the kid is an absolute baller who plays big in big games. He can come across as a d bag, but he just has that "it" factor that makes him fun to watch. He would certainly would bring a ton of attention the Jags if he is the pick. It will be fun to watch how it all plays out.

Bucky Brooks wrote he would be great in a fast-paced West Coast offense. So he can be good in the NFL . . .on a different team.
