Rapoport reports Bradley will Not be fired midseason

Quote:Shad Khan said it. He won't fire Gus Bradley before January 2 because it would not change anything. I don't remember his exact statement, but it was something to that effect.
And Nick Saban was not going to be the Alabama head coach. And Sam Bradford was the Eagles' starting quarterback. And Bobby Petrino was thrilled to be the Falcons' coach.

Things change. Quickly, in some cases.

Quote:yes yes yes 100 times yes. We just need more Gus. These non footabllers don't understand. Gus would go coach another team and win 6 superbowls...then we'd sure look foolish huh!?

Can you imagine Gus cloning himself and having Gus as the offensive and defensive coordinator and also having himself as position coaches? Talk about an early Christmas.

Quote:Color me surprised. Khan is so soft. Who has a round table with a bunch of 22% winners? A guy who doesn't have a clue. That's who. Do you think Khan will ever compete against the Rooneys, Jerry Jones, Krafts? No. They have a fire in their belly and know how to win. They don't coddle losers like Gus Bradley. This is a sad franchise.
Sadly, there is a lot of truth to this.  You don't need as much fire in the belly to sell auto parts as you do to field winning football teams. oh well, at least he kept L.A. away from us.

Even better, what if they cloned Gus and added a chromosome to make the clone a woman, then the real life Gus actually mated with the cloned female Gus then they had offspring?

give the offspring a team with even just a small teenie bit of talent and the world will see big things. Not like the dumpster juice of a roster we have here!

School must be out judging by some of the recent posts.

Quote:I can certainly agree with this.

We were talking at work this morning, and one thing that was mentioned makes a whole lot of sense.  Prior to the season starting there was a lot of hype from both fans and the media regarding the team to the point that "playoff run" was part of the conversation.  On paper it was a legitimate possibility.  However, many of the players, especially the younger ones also heard this talk and probably let it get into their heads.  It's almost like they as well as many of the fans just "expected" wins and domination without the players putting forth the effort necessary for it to be a reality.

While some blame certainly can be placed on coaching, I think that more of the blame needs to be directed towards the players themselves.
BINGO! The players are missing blocks, dropping passes, et.al. The coaches can walk them through the plays 13658563436586946342 times and if they STILL miss their blocks, drop the passes, make the wrong reads, who's fault is that? Can the coaches really FORCE players to learn?

Quote:Not really.  I'm not saying that the talent level isn't there regarding the players.  What I'm saying is that the preparation and self-discipline isn't quite there from the players.  When you hear about reports of a player closing down a bar the night before a game, that's not really on the coaching staff.
The POTENTIAL is there, but most people on here watch the draft and start expecting this team to play like all seasoned vets even though a bunch of them are rookies and first and second year players...Most of this board expected Fowler, Ramsey, and Jack all as immediate starters and expected them to play at a high level against seasoned vets...Yeah they are good, but first year players rarely make the impact the fans of this board expected...This same thing happens every year after the draft...Caldwell drafts some good players and the majority of the board comes off with astronomical projections of win totals not taking into consideration that the rookies need time to learn...Bortles is another story...He's in some kind of slump

We are stuck with Gus until at least the end of the season. Would not surprise me if he got an extension.

You're really reaching to say Rappaport made Khan sound like an idiot.  But, I suppose that this would be a subject matter where you  have a high level of expertise.

None of that is relevant to what Shad Khan said. What is relevant: This is the second year in a row Khan said he will not fire Gus Bradley midseason.

Oh man I thought I would never read the cat sweater crap again.

Most people here are just trying to make up reasons to believe Shad Khan will change his mind. Only what he said matters.

However, it is important to make sure that is not a fake account.

I didn't realize that Ian Rappaport had a doppelganger who checks in on video at the network on occasion.

That's a yes then?

Nobody is trying to make anything up.  They're pointing out the fact that many owners have offered a vote of confidence in their head coach only to turn around and fire the guy.  It's an historic fact, not something that's made up.  Khan is a savvy enough businessman to know that it does him no good to tell anyone in the press what his true intent is.

You don't think Khan is capable of putting up a smoke screen?  Read this.

Sorry, I know someone whose last name is Rappaport, so that's what I went with.  I'm fairly certain you didn't even bother to look at the link that initiated this entire thread.

When a team owner gives the coach a contract extension after giving him a vote of confidence, which Shad Khan did last year, you know he is serious. I doubt he would do that, then turn around and say, "You're out of here."

They gave him a one year extension that amounts to peanuts for a guy like Shad Khan.  All that extension was intended to do was to give some level of confidence to potential free agents who might come here that there was stability with the coaching staff.  A lame duck coach is not going to appeal to players looking for a new home.

You do understand that Doug Marrone was hired by Tony Khan, and not by Gus or Dave, right?  That hire wasn't made because the team needed an offensive line coach.  He's an insurance policy in the event they need to make a move mid-season.  When that hire was official, I'm told Gus wasn't terribly happy about it.  He knew what the message was that the team was sending.

FYI, when Mularkey was hired, he signed a 3 year contract with the Jaguars.  Khan didn't have any problem letting Caldwell fire him after year 1.

An extension worth noting is a multi-year deal that locks the coach up and ensures he won't be going anywhere.

What Bradley got was the one-year extension that owners give to coaches they're pretty sure they're going to fire, but don't want to cripple the team's ability to chase down quality free agents with a lame duck coach.

while this is true, people keep saying Khan will fire Gus...Dave Caldwell hired him, Dave Caldwell will fire him and hire the new coach

NO idea why this double copied
