Ngakoue is a stud,

Quote:Yannick beat Decker once or twice but generally I think Decker did a good job on him.

That was a good matchup between rookies that have exceeded expectations in their first NFL season.   They also faced each other in college in the Big 10,  which added a dimension to the game last week.

Quote:Yannick roasted Decker in college too.

Decker shut him down from what I remember.

6 sacks and 4FFs this year. Also believe he is in the top 10 for hurries amongst 4-3 DEs

He'd be credited with 7 sacks had his strip sack yesterday not magically popped back into Bradford's hands.  This stuff happens all the time, and only to the Jags.  Never seen anything like it.

I can't wait to watch him next season already.

But, but, he was never schemed into plays, or never stunted did he?

I think it's so funny listening to people knock on Fowler for being schemed/stunted into plays, yet I haven't heard one single person bring up when Ngakoue was schemed and stunted into plays.

Probably cause Ngakoue was more often than not able to beat his man. Even despite being held. Fowler was stonewalled 1 on 1 consistently.

That's funny considering Ngakoue only played on the weak side DE. The whole point of this scheme is to let the weak side DE (LEO) get matched up 1 on 1, every single snap. That's why the DEs flipped sides on every play (depending how the Offense lined up) that wasn't an obvious 3rd and long passing situation.

Fowler lined up on the strong side a whole lot and had to deal with TEs and RBs chipping him. Ngakoue consistently seen 1 on 1 situations and was rarely ever chipped by a TE or RB. Every time Ngakoue and Fowler were both on the field, besides in obvious passing situations, Fowler was always lined up as the strong side DE.

Ngakoue was purely a pass rusher, while Fowler was playing as an all around DE. Yea, we all wanted him to flash a little bit more as a pure pass rusher, but he was raw in that area to begin with. Nobody wants to respect the fact that he has been a true, all around DE in his first year of play, coming off an ACL.

Why wouldn't they line up Fowler on the strong side? If Fowler is a better in the run game and Ngakoue is the better rusher then that's obviously what they should be doing. For me it comes down to the fact that Yannick collapsed the pocket. We need more of that. Even 1 on 1 Fowler struggled getting pressure more times than not.

Do you lack common football sense, or something? Honestly.

You're literally saying Fowler didn't do anything this season, while saying why wouldn't they line him up at the strong side. His job isn't to be a pure pass rusher on the strong side in this scheme. Yet you guys are knocking him for not being as disruptive in the pass rushing game.

The strong side DE sets the edge first and pass rushes second in this scheme. A lot of his snaps were at that position, yet you guys simply don't understand simple football concepts and only look at sack numbers.

Someone needs their nap. Actually, Odrick/Alualu were the guys not meant to be the rushers in this scheme to set the edge. With Fowler/Ngakoue both listed as the LEO position. When both come on the field it's to rush the passer. Try and tell me when Fowler was 1 on 1 to do that he didn't get stonewalled more often than not. Or are all these people just watching another game?

Which was the type of response I expected.

You think that the "listed" positions are set in stone right? Just like Myles Jack being listed as the starting SAM LB, yet only plays 5-10 snaps a game. But, but, but he was listed and started at that position right?

Odrick and Alualu were and are the base strong side DEs, but the team played a lot more traditional 2 DE fronts this year. Which is why Fowler played that spot quite a bit this season.

If you really want to try and play this game, why didn't Ngakoue have an even better year if he was so dominate as a pass rusher? He only ever seen 1 on 1s and he completely disappeared during multiple, multiple games. Oh lemme guess, you're response will be because he's just a rookie right?

It's obvious you love to look at the stat box, but it's clear you don't have much knowledge of what's really going on during a game.

Of course the depth chart isn't reflective of the listed positions. You're a fool if you couldn't see in 3rd down or pass rushing situations Fowler still struggled beating his man one on one. Or are you just denying that ever happened altogether? Is that the excuse now? He was just always playing the run?

Ngakoue having an even better year? He set our rookie sack record as a 3rd round pick. I didn't expect that even. You sound salty.

So Fowler causing QBs to step up into the pocket never happened right? Yea, I guess not because they don't show up on the box stats and he's just easily being pushed around the edge huh?

How about those 5 PD he had? Man I guess he really locks people down in coverage huh? I mean, there's no other way a DE could have any PD huh? He wasn't just sitting back and jumping for those PD, he got them from pressure.

All of his pressures, hurries, sacks and PD must have came simply on run downs right?

It's obvious Ngakoue had a great year and nobody expected 8 sacks from him. I just think it's just comical seeing a bunch of you guys down talking Fowler because he didn't have 8+ sacks, yet he was more impactful as a whole, than Ngakoue was.

Yet everybody wants to crown Ngakoue as the legend and Fowler as garbage when a good majority of you don't have a clue about how this scheme was ran this year.

And that's not me saying I know exactly how the coaches ran this scheme, but it really doesn't take much football knowledge to know how basic the scheme was. It's been the same thing for 4 years. Which is why I find it sad that the majority of you still don't understand it after seeing it for 4 years.

Hell, Andre Branch got guys to step up in the pocket. If you're a third overall pick and unable to do that then I don't know what to say. I'm not discrediting the pass deflections. I'm speaking as a pure edge rusher perspective he was embarrassing more often than not in pass rush situations. He got manhandled so many times that you wondered if he was just giving up on the play.

Yannick has proven he is much better then Fowler this year.  That is a fact.  Anyone who believes otherwise roots for the gators or lives under a rock.

I started this thread a few months ago.  Nagouke is an even bigger stud than he was then.  Nine sacks as a rookie? Are you kidding me?

Perhaps the Jags' eternal quest for a pass rusher is over.

If Mike Smith becomes the HC of the Jags, watch out.
