Week 4: Jags vs Eagles

Insane for me to think that losing Zay would be such a big deal though. He has been a pleasant surprise for me.

What? He's been hitting 2nd and 3rd reads consistently. Sometimes even all the way to his 4th/5th

I read somewhere TL's  QBR is 82+ when not pressured and in the 40's when pressured.  Makes sense.

Are we sure he is out? Maybe just resting him.

Right. I was so down on his signing initially.

My gut tells me he'll be ok and play, but if not, we can involve the TEs more and we all loved Tim Jones. I'd love to see what he does in a real game.

Jacksonville - 24
Philadelphia - 23

Philadelphia will start off great. We'll start off slow. 2nd half adjustments leads to a completely different game. We'll be down 23 to 10 at the half and then come back and score 14 unanswered. The change will be Lawrence actually holding onto the ball in the RPO and picking up big yardage with his legs. This is going to be the game where Etienne also breaks out in the 2nd half and puts up a TD on the ground and through the air.

I predicted the Jags to beat the skins.
I predicted the colts and bolts to win

I pick the Jags to win 24-14, with the Jags scoring twice late to seal the deal. My predictions so far have been perfect so I'll run with it (perfectly wrong that is). Hopefully, I'm right this time, lol.

The pass rush is getting close, CLOSE, just not THERE. 30 is the team minimum total goal IMHO and they already have 7 so far. There's a few games on this schedule where I think they have plenty of opportunities to have big games as a squad.

The Giants have given up 13, the clots we get to face again on the road, they've given up 12. The Broncos and Jets have both given up 9 each. Haven't seen the tinhorns yet. They're middle of the league at the moment along with Vegas and Philly giving up 7 each. Need to see another player start consistently eating up some blocks or drawing attention from the interior side of the line though.

What about pressures?  Is your line not affecting the pocket and the QB much outside of last game?

Up until last week we were near the bottom for that as well

Eagles players probably not taking this game personal. Coach Pederson I'm pretty sure is.

He's probably been setting this game up since week 1. We may see the most long shots we've seen this year because the eagles should be planning to disrupt what they've seen on tape thus far, the short game.

From what I understand, the Eagles' defense plays to take away the big play, allowing some underneath stuff and hoping for a mistake. If they continue that strategy, that could play into our hands. On the other hand, if they see what we do well on offense, and they adjust, I would hope Doug will be prepared for that.

I also read that Zay Jones is nursing an ankle injury and hasn't practiced the last few days. That would really hurt if he can't play.

I think we're capable of winning, but I also think the Eagles are a little better than we are. They're also playing at home.

I don't like this matchup.  They have "Go Get It" big play receivers and in the last few minutes against the skins our corners gave up big plays over the top.  I think it comes down to helping Herndon and williams and Tyson is going to have to make plays at the top of routes.

On offense, zay is playing well but schematically he's not a take the top off the defense game changer.  In our scheme if that means Agnew or Tim jones is running a quick out or deep over I don't think ull see much of a drop off.  Moreover, I think Engram is waiting for a breakout in this offense anyway!

I took a look at PFR advanced def states for Detroit and Min games. I counted:

Total Blitzes: 32
Total Pressures: 18
Total Sacks: 3

I have a feeling Philly has Wash number like we have Indy's and it's an outlier game.

Josh Allen himself had twice as many hurries against LAC alone that Philly had combined weeks 1 and 2.

Eagles1996 might be right, that pass rush isn't great.

Edit: Changed hurried to pressures as that's a more accurate stat

Zay is important to this offense. I hope he plays. If he sits, then I hope Tim Jones can step in.

The Eagles run more RPO than anyone and 2/3rds of their pass attempts this year have been either RPO or Play Action.

I stumbled onto a great breakdown of RPO by our very own Doug Pederson.

By contrast, the Jags have run RPO/Play Action less than 1/5th of their pass attempts so far this year.

Info courtesy of Pro Football Reference.  Choose "Play Type" tab.  Other cool info found there as well like pressures allowed and pocket time under "Pressure" tab.  Unsurprisingly, Jags pocket time and pressures are low due to Trevor getting the ball out so quickly this year.
