Jason Myers makes MSN's 25 Most Disappointing NFL Players list...

Quote:I just feel like the rookie is quickly learning, and if we stick through these early struggles he very well may develop into a great kicker. As it is, his 73 percent on FGs is better than Adam Vinatieri, and his 58-yarder is tied for the longest FG this season.

When it comes to the extra points, they're no longer automatic. I keep noticing extra point misses by many different teams each week. So far this season, 19 kickers have missed at least one extra point. and six have missed at least two. The Patriot's kicker even nailed the crossbar this past week, although it happened to still get in.

Meanwhile, keep in mind that on 3-point FGs, Myers is a perfect 6 for 6. He's just 2 for 5 over 40, but have a little patience. Granted it wouldn't hurt to look around a little, but the kid's got a strong leg and may still get his act together yet.

His kickoff's aren't bad either as he's basically right in the middle of the pack across the board. Well, at least aside from his league leading 2 kickoffs out of bound.

Still, a little patience might go a long ways.
or he could be a bad kicker and we are just holding on to someone who could cost us games.....

being 6-6 on FGs in the 30's mean nothing. 2 for 5 over 40 yards? Thats a joke.

Yeah, sorry kickers have basically one job and that's a specialty, so you either can or can't. I think the he can probably kick fine, but the nerves get to him and that cannot happen for a kicker!!!!

Whoever said he has a weak leg doesn't know what he's talking about. The kid can boom it, he's just not accurate. It's more important to be accurate and not long, than to be long but not accurate.

Quote:Myers has a good leg. He just needs to be more consistent. Maybe instead of just cutting him and keep trying, there's another solution to help him get better. I'm thinking they can bring in former great kicker now retired to coach him to be more consistent. Maybe someone like Rob Bironas can help him refine his game. A little more consistency and Myers can be great.
Or maybe Myers just doesn't get it, has never gotten it, and never will. I'd lean more towards that option after considering his history.

Myers has now missed (4) PATs... more than anyone in the NFL.

I have faith in the Myers to come good.

Not really a big deal.  Only 10 kickers (teams) have not missed an extra point this season (out of 32 teams).  People are of the mindset that an extra point kick is a "gimmee".  Not so much anymore.

So, Myers has missed more than anyone in the NFL but it's not a big deal, since only 10 kickers have not missed a single one? I don't get this mindset that it's acceptable to have the worst PAT kicker in the league instead of one of the 10 best? SMH.

Middle of the pack. Kickers haven't really attempted enough 50+ yarders for it to be meaningful. Being 3-5 on 40-49 is more concerning to me. I also find it strange that people are talking about Myers' improvement when all but a couple of his FGs in the last couple of games have been sub-30 yards. If he starts to make the 40+ ones with consistency (not to mention XPs) then we can talk.

To be fair, I believe that Myers has made every FG he's attempted since the miscues vs the Colts many weeks ago.

Plus, a couple of those missed PATs were back before then too I think.

He seems to be coming around.

Observing the Jags Red Zone troubles the past few weeks, Myers has been money, especially the last two games.

And given how infrequently we score TDs, that failure rate must be enormous. I think the league is at about 95% on PATs.

Meh, the season effectively ended last week. Let him continue to build some confidence. The only thing he's missed since the bye is that one PAT I believe.

This particular kicker may be a bad example.......

True.

He's actually been "money" the past few weeks with FGs made. I did forget about that short shank he had against the Ravens. But he did boom a very long game winner in the same game.

Jags have settled for alot of FGs the past couple weeks, and Myers has come through. He's made 8 FGs in the past 2 games alone. That's good.

Let him keep growing and see if it pays off. I'm pretty sure there will be competition next offseason. If he doesn't improve even more, he'll probably get beat out.

Let's go the college route! One kicker for PATs and short fields goals and then have Myers do the long field goals and kickoffs!

*joking*...
