Lets just hope Miami loses tomorrow. Denver apparently loves Vance Joseph.

So is Shanahan who the majority wants?

Im good with Shanny, McD, or Smith. Smith the safest pick, McD the high risk high reward pick, and and Shanny the wild card. A good offensive mind but can he be a good NFL coach?

At this point, anyone BUT Marrone for me.

my order on who I want that we have interviewed or are scheduled to interview

Coughlin

Smith

Shanahan

Marrone

Mcdaniels

Lynn

Goodwin

Wouldnt be mad if it was marrone, wouldnt be excited either

Is the fear with Marrone that he'll keep the same staff?

Its the illusion of a fresh start.  But with Dave there it is not fresh. With any of our current players it is not fresh.  So let trade all our good players. Get rid of all the coaches, All the personnel.   And just have a fresh start.

Makes sense how? Guarantees what?  Absolutely nothing.  But that is why they don't want Marrone. Nothing more or nothing less.

I don't want Shanahan here. I think having head coaching experience is vital for this job.

Has to be, otherwise I dont get it.

I completely agree with the crowd that things we're stupid for hiring Marrone when we could have got a much longer look at him by firing Gus sooner. But Marrones a good coach.

Yes, that and the fact that most people think we need a new voice in the locker room that establishes discipline from Day 1.

Of the names we've interviewed, who do you see as that guy

Marrone was the OL coach and is complete opposite of Gus. Plus he is known as a coach that is hard nosed and is all about discipline...

Just give me someone who knows the x's and o's of foosball!

For me I don't have a true favorite for head coach, but I've had enough of the defensive scheme. Prefer an attacking scheme. However, somebody like Haley intrigues me. Oddly enough, the last time I can recall the jags having an aggressive scheme was when Greg Williams was the DC so who really knows

Didn't he steal our playbook and gave to tacks or something like that.

Wouldn't be surprised. Allegedly going to be the browns DC if he accepts their offer

Quote:Lot of posts to this thread since the last time I glanced at it and didn't want to read it all.  Apologies if this has been stated already, but a Marrone hire might be inevitable since Caldwell has apparently been retained.  Other prospective coaches may not want to come here knowing that Caldwell could be gone in a year or two which would likely mean the end to said coach's career here as well.  In other words, if you're keeping Caldwell you might not have many real options at coach outside of Marrone.

If that ends up being the case, it's probably an "all in" one season deal for Marrone, Caldwell and Bortles which means we'd likely be cleaning house next year with the exception of key pieces that would play well regardless of scheme.  Considering the lack of talent at the the QB position in this years draft, this approach could make sense on several levels. It would be a tough sell to a significant portion of the fan base however.

I don't see this at all. For one, Khan has gone out of his way to make sure this is an attractive position, and having Caldwell on a short leash wouldn't be attractive. For another, seeing how much patience he had with Gus makes me think he'll have plenty of patience for Caldwell, and this tells me the GM is here for a few more years at the very least. I doubt the new HC should have to worry about Caldwell's security.

With Bill O'Brien winning, it appears he's staying put a couple more years and is out of the running. It's time for a new candidate possibility ranking...

  1. Doug Marrone

  2. Mike Smith

  3. Kyle Shannahan

  4. Josh McDaniels

  5. Harold Goodwyn

  6. Anthony Lynn

  7. Vance Joseph

  8. Teryl Austin

  9. Todd Haley

  10. Jim Bob Cooter

  11. Tom Coughlin
