Texas Youth Football League Does Away With "Participation Trophies"

Also think it's worth mentioning this is only the 2nd or 3rd time I've ever seen FBT and TMD agree on any subject.

Perhaps my point of view comes from a childhood where I was generally cynical about adult behavior and motivation in general. Maybe it's a 60s/70s thing, and it has nothing to do with my parents or adult role models. I just questioned everything they said or did.
FBT's experience reinforces my belief that the problem with participation rewards has more to do with parents than the kids.

I had a long one to type out ... But ... I surrender, I agree ... we must stop them from passing out "Sissy Awards", it is interrupting, and infuriating to the ones that truly deserved to be honored for their accomplishments at the age of 12.
I'm lost for an answer .. Is it some older men that are living vicariously through their kids accomplishments? ... and they aren't happy that their kids are not being individually recognized to their approval standards by arbitrarily giving out participation trophies? ... BooHoo(ish)? ... How would it look any different by anyone not understanding? Again, try to really think about this ... Why has a participation trophy just became a sissy/loser trophy? I didn't make it a bad thing. It wasn't me. Can you say you didn't either? (not "you" you ... "any" you) And we are the smarter sex? Or the stronger one? I forget these simple things. I hate to lose to the opposite sex, so I expect a few of you to Buck up and get back on the team. We can't let "Females" beat us like this. Just why has this "participation trophy" became the "Fight For The Kids" that the grown men feel is justified? Would it be better to number each Trophy? Say the best player gets A1 (179 pounds, 6'-2") ... and the worst one gets H8 (87 pounds, 5'-1" ... glasses taped together, crappy cheap shoes, uses the same jeans for play as he does for church ... probably weighs 87 pounds because his sister beats him up for the last spam slice)? It could happen. :woot: Quote:If, and only if, each get an A in Science class.

Answer to Comment #3...To get an invite to our Team Party and a Participation Trophy your child would have had to have actually participated...

Quote:This just happened on our FB group for our football team. You're taking an extreme case of a parent that needs to be talked to, not the kid. Tell the parent no he does not get one because he didnt participate fully and the parent can tell their kid that. 8 year old kids dont see participation awards the same way you do. They see it as spending time with their friends and showing their commitment to the team. If you want to give a couple awards above and beyond to the stand out players, have at it.
Quote:The do something to earn a trophy! Um... You're saying I don't deserve a trophy? I think I do.

Is it okay if the trophy is a little dinged up? I still have mine from my first year playing football. It's symbolic of some of the best memories I have. I knew that I wasn't on the same level as the good players on the team, but I loved knowing that I had a place on that team. I still went on to be a Veteran, a college graduate, a coach, and a pretty okay guy, depsite someone "giving" me a trophy for showing up every day to practice.
But if it'll make you happy, you can have it. It's good to be kind to people I think.

Quote:I just want a trophy.I have a couple "mathlete" trophies. Want one? I'm sure you'd have beat me if you'd been in the game.

It means too much to you. Quote: I'm sure you'd have beat me if you'd been in the game. No chance. I am awful at mathematics. I actually have a mental block/paranoia whenever I have/had to take a math test. I rarely do well. That's why I live in the CLAS.
