IMO, direct payment subsidies, price controls, and protective regulation are worse. See 'Big Sugar' for a prime example of government gone too far.

I'd vote for a politician running on eliminating all subsidies and tax exemptions though the latter requires a complex overall of the overall tax code.

History makes it true. The cost of food HAS gone up and it would MUCH cheaper if there were fewer people buying it.

What, do you think the CEO's salary will go down if taxes are raised? Corporations add the taxes onto the price of the good or service. The customers end up paying the taxes.

Realism vs idealism, but your ideal differs greatly from mine. Your"ought to be" is my "no way in hell should it be." I don't want things the way they are, but my preferred changes would be the opposite direction from yours

If we're making blanket statements, I'd say the low level workers and mid level employees probably are taxed enough.

Sorry Malabar, in terms of corporate income tax, you are wrong. CIT is taxed after calculations of revenue and expenses. Google an IRS 1120
