Dave Caldwell Is No Longer Your GM

(This post was last modified: 01-11-2017, 03:34 PM by RicoTx.)

Quote:No its not my opinion. My opinion is Marrone shouldn't be the head coach and the GM should of been fired. A clean house per say. Your being completely stubborn and refusing to look at the facts Ive presented to you. Yes, the Jaguars released a statement confirming Coughlin being in charge, both Caldwell and Marrone will report to him.

Your refusing to accept that for the sake of argument. Tom Coughing is the personnel department of the Jacksonville Jaguars and its his team now.

And you're using the word your incorrectly.

Sorry, you're being a bit ridiculous saying that he is no longer the GM.

Still no substance.  If you spent half the time you do.  Showing others flaws.  As creating meaning full discussion.  You would be such a better poster.

So since you cant refute the argument, you decide to be the grammar police. Make sure "you're" up tomorrow for the 10:00 am....errrr 9:55am press conference tomorrow to find out who's in charge.

Does anyone know if the team is keeping John Idzik?

He is the guru for budgeting the cap. If they are keeping him, hopefully this time the team won't run out of cap space under Coughlin.

Why would they get rid of the guy who only deals with the finances? He wasn't the problem last year.

Quote:Tons of words, but still your OPINION.

Quote:You really think, or even want a 70 year old Coughlin logging hundreds and hundreds of hours traveling to see draft prospects, scouting players for the draft and FA. You really think Coughlin is going to be breaking down game film for draft prospects? Do you have any clue how many hours goes into scouting all of these players? Caldwell and crew has been doing work on this year's draft class, since at least 1 1/2 years ago.

You really think Caldwell is going to do all this work and present it to Coughlin, then let Coughlin just blindly pick who he wants? No chance.
Yep

Khan said what most figured. Coughlin will be his eyes and ears in the building at all times. Coughlin is basically Khan's step in. Caldwell's role shouldn't change.

If Coughlin gets to blindly pick whoever he wants, just because he has the final say over the 53, then we're going to have some serious problems.

Outside of the 1st round, he was pretty awful at drafting.

You cannot be this naive and stubborn, you cant. From the words of Shad Khan today, Tom Coughlin will have the final say, yet you still honestly believe this guy is nothing but a consultant.

Then what was the point of keeping Caldwell? Is Khan just doing him a good service and handing him free pay checks? No, he isn't. You cannot be this naive and stubborn, you can't.

I dont know what else to tell you. Thats 4 links from NFL.com, Yahoo, NBC, NFL.com and Profootballtalk.

Yes, Caldwell will work with Coughlin, but Tom Coughlin is the head of anything football related. If its football related, the final say is Tom Coughlin. If it comes down to a player in the draft? Coughlin has the final say, if Coughlin wants to sign or rising a certain player, Coughlin has the final say, if he wants to cut somebody, Coughlin has the final say. Heck, hes involved in the assistant coaching search ( kinda disagree with this), hes already rejected Marrone from signing a couple of coaches.

This is the Tom Coughlin era as of Monday. Its his team, he has the final say. You are scapegoating Caldwell hard. Your acting like Caldwell has nothing to do with 14-48. We went 14-48 and hes had a ton of question marks from his decision making. You want to rip Coughlin for his drafts, well, we never went 14-48 under his helm.  I get it, you like Caldwell, I actually like him and the team likes him which is why he is around. But yes, this is the Tom Coughlin era and yes, he essentially is the boss now.

Hes not a consultant, hes not Khans golfing buddy who pops his head in from time to time and gives him an opinion of the team. Hes making the decisions, hes drafting, hes doing FA, hes assembling the roster. Hes the VP Of Football Operations. Caldwell works right under him, both will work together, but Coughlin has the final say.

It will all go through Couglin.  Thank God

Yeah, Coughlin has already blocked Marrone from hiring somebody because of something that happened nearly 12 years ago. Nearly 12 years.. That just screams stubborn and a "I don't care what you think, I'll do what I want regardless" attitude. Not a good look in my opinion.

It's going to be interesting watching the way this board is going to spin things, if this team starts winning next year. People are going to act like it's all because of Coughlin, when the fact of the matter is, it'll be because of the roster Caldwell built and because the coaching couldn't possibly be any worse than Bradley. Coughlin isn't going to change much in one off season in regards to the talent on this team. His main effect at first, will be setting a standard in accountability and discipline.

Yes, Caldwell plays a part in that 14-48 record because he drafted the talent. The talent is clear though. It's on the Head Coach and coaching staff to produce wins. Bradley and the coaching staff failed in that area. Caldwell's job was to rebuild the roster and he has did the majority of that. Yes, there's still a couple pieces this team needs, but the majority of the core is in place, because of him.

I'm happy that Coughlin is on board, because he will absolutely set a standard and put in place the discipline this team needs. I just hope hes learned from some of his previous mistakes running things. I really hope he isn't going to be a power hungry being that slowly brings negativity into the building with a type of "my crap doesn't stink attitude".

I don't have seams, so how can I possibly be mad if they aren't sewn together?
