Bortles: "Olsen and House had different beliefs."
|
Quote:If Blake has no idea how to play QB and threw 35 TDs in 2015, then he should be great when he finally learns how to play. Pretty much. A hopeless, irredeemable, lost-cause of a QB put up over 4,000 yards and 35 TDs. "Garbage time" or not, heaven help the rest of the NFL if he figures it out.

Quote:Pretty much. I wouldn't worry about that... he's not going to "figure out" how to be an accurate QB.

Quote:I wouldn't worry about that... he's not going to "figure out" how to be an accurate QB.Are you saying QBs can't become more accurate? Accuracy directly effected by poor footwork and mechanics. If those things improve, the accuracy will. Poor decisions are something else knocking ol BB5, also.. he can make better decisions, so he can figure it out. Quote:Are you saying QBs can't become more accurate? One of my boys is very athletic, played good football all his life, good size, strong arm, and just a baller. Numerous injuries sidelined him his senior year, sucked... But he's healthy now and still mid twenties. Maybe with those attributes he can visit House too and with the additional good ol' coaching he can learn the better fundamental mechanics, then superior accuracy and decision-making skills to be NFL level too? That's all it takes? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Fair but he's also young, like I pointed out before Manning had interception issues for like his first 5 years. Brees was an after thought after his first 2/3 years. Not true. His footwork and throwing motion didn't need to be overhauled like Blake's. It's normal for qb's to work on their fundamentals in the off season but what they work on (brady, brees, eli, ryan) is minor compared to the work that Bortles has to work on. It's good that he'll be out there 10 weeks. He needs it and hopefully it will help him long term. That's all it takes? Is your boy 6'5" - 235lbs, and did he throw for 3500 yards and 25 TDs as a junior at a division one school? If so - then yes - by all means you should be seeking every opportunity to have him evaluated by scouts and seeing Tom House this summer. That's "all" it takes. (I'm not diminishing your son's talent and athleticism here - that's not my intent at all - I'm pointing out that Blake is clearly very gifted, set himself up well for this opportunity and many folks in the know are willing to give him at least one more offseason to pull it together.) Quote:Is your boy 6'5" - 235lbs, and did he throw for 3500 yards and 25 TDs as a junior at a division one school? Lol, not quite, but not all of those too far off either. The real problem as I see it is that Blake needs very fundamental re-works for NFL level, not just tune ups. He was drafted THIRD to be an elite franchise NFL qb. It's almost unfair to him, $$$ aside, because he's just not that guy and is unlikely to get there. That's Caldwell's fault. I think Blake actually knows it, as evidenced by some of his own comments. I feel bad for him and I hope he can get there, despite my serious doubts, but time is short. Quote:Lol, not quite, but not all of those too far off either. I can't disagree with any of that - though I have a little bit less doubt than you do that he can get his fundamentals up to snuff to be an average QB in the NFL. I doubt it- just not as much as you do. He improved marginally from year one to year two and then fell off of a cliff. If he can get back to where he left off fundamentally (2015 footwork as opposed to 2016) and make a few better decisions he may just be OK in a couple of years. Big "ifs," I know. Just don't panic when you see House's bill.

Quote:Mike DiRocco's nice article about Blake

...Bortles tried to throw the ball into the dirt at T.J.Yeldon's feet because a screen pass was covered. The ball bounced off Yeldon's foot, and Houston linebacke Whitney Mercilus grabbed it. It was later ruled a fumble and not an interception...
Why was the play ruled a fumble?

Quote: because he threw it behind the line of scrimmage. another bone-headed play by Bortles.

Of course it didn't help that he was drafted by a really bad team with a terrible offensive line, no running back and the worst head coach of all time. 3 years later the oline is marginal at best, can't run block but at least can semi protect the QB, no RB. Hopefully the Jags hire a NFL caliber coach and find a running back somewhere in the draft. Quote:exactly. Unless you've been in that industry, you shouldn't talk about it like you know the in's and out's. Quote:Bortles agent must have told him to try and get as many sympathy votes as possible and apparently it's working. He's going to be on the roster next year so I guess it doesn't really matter but the real question is why in the world did David Caldwell draft a QB #3 overall who struggles a lot to throw a football? See? This is the kind of garbage that has other fanbases laughing at us. Only a person who thinks the worst of others comes up with something like this. If we want other fans and the national media to stop "picking on us", then we have to stop coming up with silly stuff like this. Quote:because he threw it behind the line of scrimmage. Hey at least he didn't throw it beyond the line of scrimmage two plays in a row this year. Improved in that area.. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:Did Larry bird say I need to go see my shooting coach this off season.,nope, shooting a basketball just came natural. Please stop!! You already have proven your ignorance regarding NFL training, please leave the NBA out of it. You really think the best shooter to ever grace a basketball court (imo), never spent off season time perfecting his craft? Quote:Please stop!! You already have proven your ignorance regarding NFL training, please leave the NBA out of it. You really think the best shooter to ever grace a basketball court (imo), never spent off season time perfecting his craft?LOL. Not to mention the fact that Larry Bird maintained an absolutely legendary practice regimen. However natural or not - Bird would often (nearly always) do his own shooting drills prior to and after practices that usually totaled around 300 practice shots. That's dedication to craft. Bortles may have taken too long to figure out what it takes to hone his craft properly - but at least he sounds like he's making a stronger commitment to it this offseason. Blake should do whatever it takes to get his technique sorted, and spending time with a guy that trains several of the best QBs in the league is certainly an acceptable way to pursue that to any reasonable fan. |
