Missouri DE Michael Sam admits to being gay

I can't believe that this is a huge story. We still have a long ways to go as a society.

Any Given Sunday,

Maybe it's God's way of countering overpopulation?

Now there's a thought. Never seen someone present it in those terms.

Maybe it's just Biology Going awry due to various environmental factor. I don't think God micromanages his creations.

Quote:There's nothing wrong with being gay.  It's not a choice.  And if he can help us win football games, I want him on our team.

That is all.

There may be nothing wrong with being gay, but there is something wrong with his ability to play football. Emphasis is mine.

Bucky Brooks:

Sam's lack of position an issue

Michael Sam is a terrific college player, but he's a man without a true position at the NFL level. Measuring 6-1, 260 pounds, Sam is undersized to play defensive end, yet he lacks the movement skills and agility to play outside linebacker. Thus, he will be viewed as a pass-rushing specialist, driving his stock down a bit on draft boards across the league. As far as Sam's sexuality, I don't believe it will significantly impact his draft status. Most scouts were aware of his sexuality through their background research, so the topic had probably been discussed before the announcement. Additionally, coaches and executives are well aware of a number of gay athletes in the NFL and it hasn't been a problem to date. If a player can make plays and help a team win games, the other stuff won't be a problem.

Daniel Jeremiah:

Jags could use Sam's pass-rushing skills

Personally I don't think Sam is an ideal three-down player in either scheme. His best fit is as a designated pass rusher. He can contribute on passing downs for any team. One team that makes sense is Jacksonville, which is desperate for pass rushers, and Sam could be a nice value in the fourth or fifth round.

This does not look like somebody I want.

Why not? We are talking about a player making history, man.

Quote:Yeah.....why doesn't someone start a lesbian cheerleader thread here too or some other non-football thread....

You got the ideas, create them.

Whether someone has a liberal, or conservative viewpoint, a authoritative figure should not lock a thread for the sole purpose to get the last word in all the while prohibiting someone else from being able to respond.

The important question is now will it matter if another (second) gay professional athlete announces his/her sexuality will it be a big deal?

Actually Michael Sam will be the second if he gets drafted abd survives all cuts. Major League Soccer player Robbie Rogers came out after joining a team and is still playing.

NBA player Jason Collins was entering free agency and never found another team, but at the time he was hailed as the first male professional athlete to do it.

Lots of people may have already said this (not going to read 10 pages and I'm late seeing this), but I like how this is worded as he "admits" to it. I'm going on the record and admitting that I have brown hair. Okay, I admit it.

That's funny. Yeah, someone mentioned it and there were a few posts about that a few pages back. Not worth going through all those pages though.

What I cannot understand is why you would choose to have brown hair.

I'm sorry but I just don't support the brown hair lifestyle.

Do you think they're eventually going to use Gay-dar in the locker rooms to establish sexual preference......or would that be an infringement on our privacy rights?

Sooooo.....are you 13?

If you are, I'm sure your friends think you are hilarious.

Quote:I don't think that's why he did it.   I think he did it because he knew there would be lots of rumors and questions, and he just wanted to get it over with.

I think we can both be right. If he doesn't come out, there's just rumors and the questions are asked of him. He comes out, he's told his side. If he slips, the questions are asked of the GMs. He's basically daring them to not pick him.

If something can corrupt you, you're corrupted already.

Quote:I could see a lot of teams passing on him. Not wanting to deal with the media circus. And they might also fear that having an openly gay player on their team would lead to potential free agents not wanting to sign with the team.

I disagree with this. I think he'll be drafted where he was projected to go all before this was known or announced. He had a respetcable season last year on a very stout Missouri football team with a solid running in the SEC. I think he contributed at least 11.5 sacks last year with close to 20.0 TFL's, and the year before that he had only flashed here and there. I think he'll be off the board by the end of the 4TH round to be quite honest with you. I think high character coaches like Pete Carrol, Jim Harbaugh, and Andy Reid will take this kid and not even think twice about it.

That was a "The Office" reference. This is a football message board. It's a silly joke for a stupid thread. And actually.....My friends think it's pretty funny sonny boy......

Haha nice, brilliant. Smile
Titansequaltrash aka my mini me. Follows me around like a cute puppy dog.

It was only a matter of time before Chris Kluwe talked or wrote about this. He thinks calling Michael Sam a distraction is like calling Richard Sherman a thug LOL.

In this article he also claims we already know how it will turn out because the same words are being said about Sam now that were used when Jackie Robinson joined the MLB.
