My wife and I will be down visiting my best friend in Jax. He has two kids and they aren't the most adventurous eaters. We are going to be moving within the next two years so getting a jump on knowing some good, unique spots to get a bite in Jax would be great.

Any suggestions from the locals? Bear in mind that I am from WV so I don't need southern food. I get that by the bucket load back home.

I have been to Clark's. I ate there right before finding out I needed to have my gallbladder removed. Tons of delicious deep fried everything made my gallbladder finally tap out haha.

I will give Cullhane's a visit.

Go to Safe Harbor seafood - Beach Blvd - Jax Beach. It's a seafood restaurant located adjacent a marina on the intracoastal waterway. Good fresh local seafood. Options for kids. ~$25 perperson.

Gotta agree with The Casa.. Long time ago, I put all the outdoor landscape lighting up at The Casa. They were so pleased that they gave me and my ex a hell of a deal when we got married on the beach in front of the place. They hooked us up with a great reception.

Drove by there a couple months ago, and the lights are still up and look fantastic.

A couple of my favorites that are really not "Jacksonville unique" but offer great food.

For Mexican food I recommend Las Tapatias.  Keep in mind that this is by no means a "high end" place to eat, but it offers a unique experience and serves the most "authentic" Mexican food that I've found in Jacksonville.  Prices are inexpensive and the atmosphere is close to "real Mexico".  Keep in mind, I am of Mexican descent and am picky when selecting a "Mexican Restaurant".  Most other recommendations that you would get are not even close to being authentic.

As far as Italian food (one of my favorites) I haven't found a better place than Enza's.  It's a little bit more pricey, especially if you're just looking for a "bite to eat", but the food and service is amazing.

I grew up at the beach but have never been to Casa Marina. Walked by and parked at the lot plenty of times whenever I went to the pier.

Who owns Casa Marina?

Next time I'm in Jax I'll take the wife there for dinner

Taverna in San Marco is kind of unique. We used to like the Silver Cow but it is currently relocating to a different part of town, plus it is more bar then food but it was definitely interesting. You should definitely try the Candy Apple Cafe downtown if you get a chance.

Casa Marina is worth a look. If you want to drive down to St. Augustine you should check out The Columbia. Great spot. If you're headed out to Jax Beach the Flying Iguana is pretty cool if you're into tacos.
