It's not hate. People want to see the team win. In all of sports QB is the most important position of them all. It takes an extremely talented team to win without a good quarterback. Throw out the stats, this is a new day an age where throwing for 3k-4k yards is the norm with heaps of TDs. Heck, 22 QB's threw for over 3500 yards last season. The guy has shown he can't throw a football correctly and is widely inaccurate while leading the team to losing seasons. This season should be all about the running game and strong defense to help minimize Blake's mistakes and put less stress on how much work he needs to do. It is going to be a different offense so lets see how the guy does in the system.

I mean it doesn't matter to me if he sucks or not because next year is the year of QB's in the draft. You'll see starting material guys going in the 4th round. Not to mention Cousins hitting the market. Get Fournette warmed up, get the o-line in check this year then add your QB and make some real noise.

Or who knows. Maybe the Jags try to pull a trade this season.

Yeah I think you are missing the point. You don't win superbowls with crap QB's unless its extraordinary. Last time was 03' Brad Johnson, and if someone makes an argument for 06' Rothlesberger I wouldnt argue with that. The only question is can Blake lead this team to a superbowl win? If he is good enough to, you keep him. If not, you move on. It's not hate, and I completely disagree with your statement that the QB isn't most important in all of sports. It's not about playoff appearances it about rings. The fact is if you don't have a good QB, you more than likely ain't winning no ring.

I don't think I've ever seen a QB, who's seems to be a cool guy who stays out of trouble, so polarizing within a fan base. He's deserving of criticism, but the poor kid gets just brutalized by so many people. I hope he lights it up this year. You know there will still be those wanting him gone.

There are many rumors, rumors which I then asked friends who knew of him in his time at UCF who confirmed the rumors of him being a massive drinker..

Let's not act like Blake is picture perfect.  Maybe he has changed, we can all hope, but you guys blindly defended Gene just like you are now with Blake.

But, in 3 years if Blake is out of the league, it will be you same guys who will bash him at every turn as if you were in on it the whole time

If having a good QB was all it took, then why haven't guys like Phillip Rivers, Andy Dalton, Alex Smith, Matt Stafford, or Carson Palmer even gotten to a super bowl? Simply having a good QB isn't going to cut it. Look at the coaches of every super bowl winner - all of them are considered elite coaches that any franchise would die to have someone like them lead their players to the promised land.

My point: Having a good coach is just as important, if not more, as having a good QB. A poorly coached team, even with good talent, likely won't even sniff the playoffs, let alone the super bowl.

Did I say anything about that QB was the only recipe? I am saying regardless of how your team/coach is you need a good QB to win a superbowl! The last chance it has happen was 03', and I said i'd buy an argument for 06'. Quarterback is not the reason you lose games, but you damn well need atleast a good one to win that ring. The question is, is Blake good enough to win you a superbowl? Thats literally it. It's not about 7-9, 8-8, or oh hey a playoff appearance. It's rings man, and teams need a good QB to win one ALONG with a good team and coach around him. I think most of the fan base doesn't believe Blake can be that guy to win a ring. The other two had plays called downfield.  It was pretty clear to anyone with two eyes that they were trying to establish the run.

I'm sure we'll see him given a few shots to throw down field in game 2.

We live in the microwave generation where fans only care about what happened most recently.  They ignore the fact that the guy set franchise records 2 years ago, and even last season, the pick six marathon also netted him another season where he beat the previous team record for TD passes thrown by a QB in a season, so he holds the top two spots in that category.  

Most people can't think beyond the last few minutes, so the most recent memory they have of Bortles is a guy who was just snake bitten last year, trying to do too much for an inept coaching staff.  What we have in Bortles will be fully realized this year, and if he continues to struggle despite the off season efforts to build the team around him so that he can be successful, he won't be here next season.  Simple as that.  It takes far less energy to be a bunch of Debbie Downers blasting the guy for every mistake than it does to recognize the potential and hope for the best this season.

If Blake flames out, he'll do it on his own.  What fans think about him is irrelevant.  But, feel free to keep digging for more rumors because that's really what's important.  A college student who liked to party.  That's a rarity.  They should string him up by his short hairs for that, right?

People do mature, and most outgrow that party boy mindset.  Let's just see how he does this year.  He clearly put an emphasis this off season on improving his craft, and most reports confirm that he has made significant effort and it's showing.  He's in better shape both physically and mentally, and he won't have to deal with Gus on the sideline telling him to just get better, or coordinators who put everything on his shoulders to carry the team.  It's a new day, and I think with the way they've gone about building the roster around him this year, the goal is to allow him to reach his full potential.  It's all on him at this point.

Animals run from them and whine as they approach. Plants wilt and will eventually die if in their presence to long. These fans deserve the right to vent/hate/be wrong/be right all they want, it is on the Jags and the players to change that

It still cracks me up beyond belief every time I read an OG of these boards rip or bash Gene Smith these days or make some meme about him when they were one of the people bashing every poster who posted negative about him.

We came close to winning the division in 2010, but I get your point.  The fans do have a right to vent but there are some that seem to want certain players or coaches to fail.  I'll just never understand that mindset.

Bortles had five pass plays. Let's look at a longer stretch. Bortles had 35 TD passes in 2015.

If we can only be pleased with a Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, or Drew Brees, we probably always going to be displeased.  From the last 30 years of the list just look at some of those qbs:
Jim McMahon
Phil Simms
Jeff Hostetler
Trent Dilfer
Mark Rypien
Brad Johnson.

And, frankly, Doug Williams and Eli Manning aren't exceptional qbs, either.

No, but they were good enough to win a ring... And I would take everyone of of them except Dilfer over Bortles.

Why?  Because they were the qbs of winning teams?  Put anyone on the list I provided on a bottom 5 roster of their era and they don't elevate it.  They don't win.  They were average...journeymen....not all-time greats.

Had Bortles thrown some bad passes or some picks, then there might be an issue.  The same could be said about Henne.  There isn't a QB on that list any more (or less) talented than what we have right now.

Except the added Eli Manning...

I think he started out 'meh' but turned into a very good QB.

Maybe he won't ever be considered "elite" but I'd say he is definitely better than BB5, currently.

I think that's fair to say.  But Eli is what, a 13 year vet?  And other than two lucky catches by his receivers in two Super Bowls, he would be considered meh if his last name were Jones or Brown instead of Manning.
