I think it's obvious that Blake is broken at this point.  Something is really wrong with him psychologically.  He has zero confidence.  Henne, right now, is better than this version of Bortles.

Maybe he can actually lead a pretty talented team to the playoffs and we trade up for a QB.  If we then sign Cousins next offseason and have Cousins-Henne-Rookie, I'd feel like we're pretty set for a while with an above average Cousins and a rookie we don't have to rush in.  

Regardless, I hope we keep Marrone.  I think he's a hell of a coach.

Henne could be effective if they keep him in a game manager role.  If they ask him to open it up, he'll be wildly inconsistent.

That`s literally the only role a team has ever given him, Its like you people have never seen the man play a single snap outside of this preseason.

Heck he hasn`t even been good this preseason against the Bucs 1`s he averaged 4.4 yards a throw and had a 60% completion rate.

With that 4.4 average at least we know Henne is consistent.

The chance Bortles gets hurt so bad he cant play next year is like .9% this really should be a non factor.

We have a rookie starting at LT next to a LG position that we can't even name yet. If Bortles plays there's a significant chance he does get hurt, which in retrospect may actually be a benefit of Henne starting... not that I want that old scrub to start.

It was well known that he was dealing with a shoulder injury last season, but nobody acts like that ever happened. That's fine.

His throwing motion is completely different from last season. You love to use practice and preseason so much, yet it's been shown multiple times how different it is during practice and preseason.

Yea it's a what have I done for you lately league.. You wont find Henne on this list any time lately and you sure as hell wont find his name on that list ever. At least Bortles has shown some upside in his career. 

Yea I do want you to show me a list. I want a list of every QB who has had one good year and they all better have better numbers than Bortles' best year. Since it's so easy, the list should be very long.

I also think it's comical how everybody knows how Bortles' confidence is, as well as knowing how tired his arm is. It's almost like the majority of this message board is actually inside the facility and are working with the team, or are actually on the team and in the locker room.

However, in terms of one year wonders: Derek Anderson (29 TD's over 3,600 yards), Tommy Maddox (13 games 20 TDs), Scott Mitchell (32 TD's nearly 4,400 yards), Steve Beurelein (36 TD's nearly 4,500 yards), hell even Vince Young was OROY. Not sure about Nick Foles but I recall one good year from him in Philly.

Bortles' 2nd best season is head and shoulders above any of those guys 2nd best season and it's not even close. It's clear as day that Bortles' best season is better than all of their's as well

And at the end of the day, the whole point of all of this is that I'm not saying Bortles is going to be good. He's looking like he's a bad option on a team with awful options at QB. He's still better than Henne will ever be though.

Not a fan of this at all. If you want to make a statement to your team, you start Allen(its a meaningless game). We know who Henne is, Henne hasn't and won't change when the games go live. If Allen doesn't have it, you stick with Blake and cut one of your 2 backups and stick it out with the guy with the most upside at the position. I am critical of Blake, but not "start Henne" critical. That said I hope we see Allen with the 2s in this game for most of the 2nd half and I hope he lights it up..

I have officially removed Caldwell from my Christmas list and will pout until he is removed from the ability to destroy my favorite team any further. I don't even want him around Coughlin; some of the stink might rub off on him.

It's a nice change up. The team and fan base needs this. We know what we have in Bortles. It wasn't working. Time to move on. The front office rolled the dice thinking they could fix him this off-season. It didn't work out. Just hope this year is better than the last three.

Bortles has 11 wins as a starter. If Henne and/or Allen can lead this team to a 6 - 10 or 7 - 9 record I'll be thankful for that. Here's to Kirk Cousins next year if he's finally able to escape Washington. I don't want to see this team gamble on another rookie. Go out and get the proven QB already and be done with this nonsense.

Eh, I wasn't excited about Henne at first either. But now I'm really curious as to how he does tonight with the 1's on both side. Keep in mind Henne hasn't played in over 2 years. He's had all that time to mature, learn the plays, and develop with his offense. He might come out and surprise us and not be the Henne of old.

Henne is still Henne folks. Remember how everyone cheered when he was pulled off the field and they brought on Blake Bortles? He is what he is; at best, a 'stop gap' backup quarterback who can hand the ball off. He is not known for leading teams to dramatic come backs, or for taking chances with long down field plays. He is known for going 'three and out' too often and for throwing a lot of 'check down' passes. With a powerful run game though, he might be able to take advantage of the play action pass. We'll see.

I don't know if Bortles not starting the third preseason game signals the end of the Bortles era; I think that may be a rash presumption at this point, but it could be the case. I guess that given the options at the time that Bortles was drafted he must have seemed like the lesser of two evils... when compared to 'Johnny football'. The media over hyped him as the 'franchise quarterback' and as usual we all got suckered in... at least for a short time.

As I said Henne is what he is, so also Bortles is what he is; a young guy with a fair amount of toughness and athleticism... but with serious football throwing technique problems which lead to inaccuracy, as well as a penchant for poor decision making regarding those passes which has resulted in a high interception ratio. This deficiency has been somewhat masked by his 'garbage time' stats... which haven't helped the team at all. He also had the added handicap of playing under very poor coaching here during his rookie years, not to mention a very sub-par offensive line. And right now, his self-confidence probably isn't the best.

Still, you can't draft what isn't there and franchise caliber quarterbacks don't grow on trees. 2018 looks to be a good draft year for quarterbacks supposedly. More than likely we'll get a shot at one. We shouldn't go out and bring in some 'trouble maker' type quarterback (you know who I'm referring to) nor some 'over the hill' or 'never was' type quarterback that will get paid way too much to come here and produce squat. No, we'll just have to bite the bullet another season or maybe even two, and draft a quarterback and let him develope. I know we're all tired of years of bad football here. It takes a long time to undue the damage that has been done by years of bad drafting and coaches... and we've been the victims of both for a long time now. It ain't gonna turn around over night, no matter how much we want it to. Other teams have had to go longer stretches than we have to get it together. 

It is what it is... ride it or get off.

It's unlikely that either is capable of getting the team to .500.

There's a good chance that both of them see regular season action as this staff seems willing to pull an ineffective player and put the backup on the field.

I'm disappointed that Bortles didn't live up to the expectations for his improvement, but I'm even more concerned about this offensive line's run blocking. If that was up to snuff, then this QB disaster could be greatly mitigated. It currently appears that there's a good chance this unit will struggle to run well against the better defenses they face this season. I wasn't expecting a miracle at QB -- but I really did hope they'd fix the run game.

At this point, the season is a done deal. I feel bad for Marrone, he's another Mularkey now. A place holder, a lame duck. And I feel bad for the talent on this team. They could easily take this division with average QB play and we won't even attain that. Honestly, start Allen. He's the only wild card and we already know what we have in both Henne and Bortles.

I'm not necessarily negative about it except that it means Bortles didn't get better like we hoped he would. 

But, of course a good outing from him tonight will make folks more confident we might win some games with him behind center in the regular season.

It would certainly take some of the sting off. But no, I would still not feel good about it. Would much rather see BB5 torch them and win the spot. Not that I will be doing cartwheels either way. With all I have seen from both I still feel BB5 is the better option.
