Sammy Watkins

#61

Quote:Those of you referring to Watkins as a one trick pony really need to watch a Clemson game. Watkins has everything but size, but it's not like he is small.

KYJaggy, Watkins is very much on the prospect level of Dez Bryant and Julio Jones. He is a better prospect than Thomas. All 4 of them are below A.J. Green and Calvin Johnson.

I'd rank them (in terms of prospects)

Calvin Johnson

A.J. Green

Julio Jones

Sammy Watkins

Dez Bryant

Marqise Lee

Justin Blackmon

Michael Crabtree

Demayrius Thomas

Mike Evans

pretty much how I see it......I'm just saying that if he went Watkins and QB later.....I would have no problem at all.....I'd be pretty excited actually

Watkins is a playmaker, and every team strives to get true difference making players. I would love to see a talented player such as Sammy on the Jags, assuming the more critical QB and rush DE positions have been addressed (either draft or free agency).

We're basically splitting hairs they're all great It just depends how much you're willing to knock a guy for imperfections I suppose. Dez, Demaryius, and even Josh Gordon were elite on the field prospects superior to Sammy, simply for the fact that you can't teach the size and skills that they have. All of them are significantly taller and with better hands, while being just as fast and as good or better after the catch.

Unfortunately, they all had some combination of major off field issues (Dez and Gordon) or lack of production (Demaryius and Gordon).

Sammy is 'safer' than most of them though, so if that plays a big part in your evaluation then I can see why he would be higher than them. As far as what you see is what you get though, I'd have to say all 3 of those physical freaks were better prospects.

EDIT: I personally tend to be more lenient for off field concerns because I don't have access to the interviews and stuff, and because it's not my job on the line if I make a pick that busts out of the NFL like Blackmon is on his way to doing. If my job was on the line with these picks like the real GMs are, I probably would have Sammy ahead of the 3 above.

Quote:So what you are saying is that Sammy Watkins is an undersized WR who is a bad route runner with bad hands, who cannot create separation? Why do you think most scouts have him going in to top half of the 1st round, then?

No, what I am saying is Watkins is 6 Ft. 1 In. 203 Lbs. The video I randomly selected does indicate no route-running, several stone-handed drops, and a lack of ideal pass-coverage provided by typical college football defensive backs.

You may derive lots of things from what college coaches ask a player to do. A scout may note things that are conspicuous due to their absence.

Idk what video you watched, but it was obviously a different clemson receiver. Sammy Watkins does not have stone hands. I've seen almost every Clemson game this year and I can think of 2 drops he's had. He has very strong hands, a la Justin Blackmon. He is basically Justin Blackmon with speed. He's physical, teams don't jam him very often because when they do he beats the jam and goes for a TD. The only knock on him is he's not 6'5".

Prisco said on twitter he can see the Jags taking Watkins at 3. Will we know if JB is playing by draft time?

Remember all those sideline passes for 9 yards or more? Over and over and over. They still wouldn't play close up on him. Gee, I wonder why. Doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out. They've seen all his tapes. He's lethal going long. They didn't dare let him get behind them.

Marco Coleman also mentioned it after the last game as well.

Not sure how I feel about that. If that is BAP, it will be a long, slow climb back to the top of the division.

Yes.....it is slow. After the total tearing up of this team, it will be slow and painful at times. The pieces come back slowly. It's not about 2014....,.we will be better but still stink. It's all about 2015 and 2016......look out.

The only way I see us ending up with Watkins is in the result of a Clowney or QB trade down. I just think you can't quite take him in the Top 3 of this draft.

I wouldn't be shocked to see the Rams take Watkins at #2. That could be a dynamic offense with Austin and Watkins.

LEONARD FOURNETTE FAN CLUB PRESIDENT. I WAS BEHIND HIM WHEN YOU ALL SAID HE WAS BRANDON JACOBS. QUIT HATING ON THE JAGUARS. GUS IS GONE. COUGHLIN HAS RESTORED ORDER. FOURNETTE IS FRED TAYLOR. DONT BELIEVE ME JUST WATCH.

If Clowney and Teddy are gone by 2nd then lets just grab Sammy then 2nd take Gabe Jackson and ROLL WITH HENNE. Surely HENNE cant mess up the game up with JB Sammy Shorts and Ace..right? Right?! Im being very sarcastic right now

this prolly wont happen, but i kinda wonder what it would be like to have Tahj Boyd at QB, With Cecil Shorts, Justin Blackmon and Sammy Watkins at wide out.giving Boyd his favorite collegiate target with two excellent recievers to change it up... ahh... what a dream

Watkins, Blackmon, Shorts and Saunders........could make even a half decent quarterback good
