Why is Teddy Bridgewater is the most overrated prospect on this message board

"Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, if he gets angry, he's a mile away and barefoot."
Quote:So the guy knocked his body. Again, when you can't find any negative traits, you have to find another way to criticize him I guess. Same goes for Pirk. "Let's see, there is nothing about his skill set or play on the field I can use against him..... I've got it, I'll give all the credit for his stellar play to an offensive coordinator that actually nerfed his talents". No respect for the detractors that can't point out one single negative trait. You guys get the gas face. Gas face guy reminds me a lot of Geno Smith. Not worth a top pick.
I do think Teddy is a franchise QB and could do absolute wonders for a QB-starved team like the Jaguars.
Even so, the OP is basically correct to say what he did. And before you all disagree with him anymore, please answer these 3 simple questions. 1)If the 2014 Jaguars could draft Teddy Bridgewater or trade for Andrew Luck right now, which would you choose? 2)Now do the same question for Cam Newton, which would you choose? 3)And finally, if Jameis Winston was hypothetically draft eligible this year, would you take Teddy or Jameis? I'm not a mindreader, but can only assume that 99% of you answered Luck, Newton, and Winston to those 3 questions. So what was the point of this exercise? It was to show that OP is right, in as far as he says that Teddy is not on the same level as former and even future #1 QBs. And that of all the #1 QBs drafted with the number 1 pick over the last 4 years(including next year with the presumed first pick Winston), Teddy is the lowest. It doesn't mean that he sucks, only that he wouldn't have been the #1 QB in Cam's 2011, Luck's 2012, or in Winston's 2015 draft.
I want 3 players. Clowney, Bridgewater, Manziel. Jaguars have the number 3 pick. Just give me one of those 3 at 3, and I'm happy.

Lemme follow that up by saying this though:
IMO Teddy Bridgewater is both the most overrated AND most underrated QB of 2014. I know, confusing right? He's overrated as the #1 QB because he's not comparable nor on the same level as former and future #1 QBs like Luck, Newton, and Winston. BUUUUUUUUUUUT, He's at the same time grossly underrated within the 2014 QB class, because IMO, he is LIGHTYEARS ahead of Carr, Bortles, Mccarron, Mettenberger, Murray, etc, and just about every other QB in college football today. Only the two-heismans(Winston and Manziel) are comparable IMO. In fact in regards to the standard, NFL-caliber, NFL skill-set, franchise QBs available, Teddy is the only QB in the draft this year I'd use a first round pick on.

Quote: I tend to agree with what you said, although I do think Bortles is for sure worth a first rounder. You seem to have cooled on drafting Johnny from the other night. As for your previous 3 question, I would trade Teddy for Luck and probably Newton as well, but that's a loaded question, as those guys have already proven it at the next level. Ask me the same question after Teddy's 3rd year and you may get a different answer. As for Winston, I'd have to see him play another year, with less surrounding talent and similar levels of production to put him over Teddy.

Quote: but that's a loaded question, as those guys have already proven it at the next level.I know, I know, lol. Few hypothetical questions are perfect. Thanks for answering the questions though nonetheless  Perhaps a little bit better question(still not perfect but better) would be: You can have the 2011 Cam, 2012 Luck, 2014 Teddy, or 2015 Winston. All #1 QBs in their respective years. Rank them. I can only assume Teddy comes in last or next to last in 9 out of 10 people's rankings. Still though, a 3rd or 4th place amongst that crowd is still pretty damn respectable IMO.

Quote:I think you would be very surprised in the actual pro production in Bridgewater
Quote:I know, I know, lol. Few hypothetical questions are perfect. Thanks for answering the questions though nonetheless :thumbsup:1a. 2012 Luck 1b. 2011 Cam 2. 2014 Teddy 3. 2015 Jameis Luck and Cam are neck and neck as prospects Bridgewater is a far more polished qb while Jameis is more physically talented Good chance Bridgewater ends up being a Rodgers/Brady type, I wouldn't trade that for any of the three We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:2. 2014 TeddyWow. I thank you for your honesty, but I'm pretty sure you're the first person I've met this year who'd take anyone currently in college over Jameis. I've heard some call Winston the most NFL ready freshman they've ever seen. Still, your opinion is worth just as much as mine, and you have an interesting perspective there. Thanks for sharing.

The bottom line is actual NFL scouts and actual NFL executives raise reasonable doubts about Bridgewater.
The old saying from the Middle Ages still applies today..."When ye proffer the pigge open the poke." Now that the cat is out of the bag, let's continue to monitor the draft information coming from reputable sources and look for those possessing elite talent. There are elite players in every draft. The trick to developing a talented roster is securing elite players. We hold the third pick in round one. Any selection less than an elite football player is a mistake.
