Interesting that everyone around here always cries "patience" but when looking around the league it is more apparent than ever that quick turnarounds are capable.

Andy Reid made the playoffs in his first year at KC

Chip Kelly made the playoffs in his first year at Philly

Mike McCoy made the playoffs in his first year at San Diego

Bruce Arians won 10 games in his first year at Arizona

Mark Trestman was within one win of making the playoffs despite losing his starting QB for a good part of the year at Chicago.

There's a pretty significant difference between most of these teams situations and the Jags situation.

As long as we continue to set the bar low and make excuses for others success, we'll continue to flounder right where we are.

If you can't objectively look at the differences, we have nothing further to discuss.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.  You claim to be a "realist" and in this case you simply aren't.

1. The amount of talent on those rosters is largely better than this roster.  So much better that one (and possibly even two) years of drafting and FA won't clear that gap up.

2.  Mike McCoy has a franchise level QB...give us Phillip Rivers and this team wins more games.  Does it turn the whole world around...no it does not. This team would be better though.

3.  Jay Cutler missed a few games.  5 I think.  For the other 11 they had a QB that is far better than anything the Jaguars have to work with.  On top of their more talented roster.

4.  KC has Alex Smith (he's no Manning but he's clearly better than Chad Henne and Gabbert), Charles, Bowe, and loads of talent on the defensive side.  I could have coached that team to 6-7 wins.

5.  Arizona is the only team that's remotely comparable to the Jaguars situation.  They still have the better QB and more talented roster.

Arizona went and got that QB. You can't make the excuse of Arizona having a better QB when the new regime went out and got said QB. Same with Kansas City.

The new Jags regime stuck with the status quo at the QB position. They in turn own the results.

TMD is clearly not a Jag fan. Not sure why he's essentially allowed to troll this board with his nonsense.

I am a Jags fan. Just a far more demanding one than you.

The happiest I've seen him is when the clots won last night.

They kept the same QB because we weren't going to win the Alex Smith battle over a team like KC and Carson Palmer is just a better version of Henne. They had to give Gabbert one last shot before pulling the plug on a former top 10 pick. Duh doy.

Not to mention this new regime is about speed, youth and rebuilding through the draft.

Happy for Luck, couldn't care less about the rest of that team. I appreciate greatness. I am the same way in watching any league star level player in any sport.

LOL, they didn't "have" to give Gabbert one last shot. If their evaluation skill was better they could have come to the inevitable conclusion that Gabbert simply doesn't have what it takes to be a successful NFL QB. While the Jags didn't necessarily have to choose Palmer or Alex Smith, to act like they couldn't have found another QB and had to stick with status quo is a weak notion.

Finding a franchise QB is no easy task. If you spend a top 10 pick on a QB you obviously need him to be the guy. QB's don't have the luxury of developing like they used to in this new wave of QBs having instant success. No matter what anyone outside the doors of Everbank thought; Blaine had to be given the chance to start. You don't throw away something if you're not sure what you have under a subpar offensive line.

We were not going to overpay for a new QB to come in here when this regime is still searching for it's identity. That would be stupid.

You act as if Blaine didn't already have 25+ NFL starts under his belt at the time of the new regime taking over. There was more than enough film on the guy. He absolutely did NOT need to be given the chance to start, ....again. As it played out, are you suggesting they really needed those extra what? 3-4 starts  to find out what they should have already been able to decipher/ evaluate from the more than enough previous game tape??

I agree with TMD here. Our situation is not at all different. We have just as much opportunity to change things around as any other team. What, we don't have the same draft? What, we don't have the same salary cap? What, we don't have the chance to sign free agents?

We had the chance to get Andy Reid but we went with a coordinator. We had the chance to get Alex Smith, we went with Gabbert. We had the chance to get anyone not under contract just like every other team.

Gus and Dave own 53 of the players on the roster. If we have no talent it's because they signed, drafted, and kept no talent!

Yes! They didn't know how much Blaine may have developed from the previous year. Not to mention they drafted Joeckel to help beef up the o-line. It didn't take long to see he clearly doesn't have it in him with even more help around him. It would be a disservice at that point to not roll with Henne and develop our young receivers.

Chargers win two more games than last season as did the Jags and McCoy is AWESOME but Gus meh...Makes sense

Trestman won less games than Lovie did last season and went back to Cutler when he should have stayed with McCown and the hot hand to finish the season. IMO cost them the Packers game. Also didn't pull Cutler in second game in Detroit when he was awful and they lost by two points. Bad coaching decisions by Trestman.

Reid, Kelly, and Arian's all did good jobs can't take anything away from them. However, they all had more talented rosters and we all know it.

Any Reid? With the hole our franchise needed to crawl out of we absolutely needed a motivator like Gus here.

I love all the people jumping all over TMD coming up with reasons the other teams can have success and we can't. Jags have been rebuilding since 2007 including numerous coaching changes. Pretty ridiculous for 6 seasons to go by and we are the bottom of the league.

But keep making all the excuses you want, jags are among a very small list to not seem to be able to right the ship so to speak after a limited time.
