Why is Teddy Bridgewater is the most overrated prospect on this message board
|
Quote:I count 8/9 first round misses, with 6 top ten picks wasted in a nine year stretch, Blackmon may make it 7/10. While I do think Blackmon and Joeckel are building blocks going forward, it's very easy to see why the team is in the state that it is. We can't afford to miss again, especially in the #3 slot. That's why I'd love to see us down and get more picks. But, there should be quality there at #3 as long as they play the value board and don't fall in love with a particular player.

Next year. he will be the one under the microscope, unfairly criticized the same way Bridgewater was this season. Face it, Teddy has been the #1 overall QB since that Sugar Bowl. Jameis will be in the same situation entering next year, he is far from a guaranteed #1. Jameis would be the guaranteed #1 pick today if he were eligible. He's not, yet Teddy certainly is not a consensus #1 pick, and may not even be the first QB off the board. That's not even close to being the "#1 overall since that Sugar Bowl." Simply saying it doesn't make it true.

We have a nice little stockpile with 10 already. It isn't worth it to pass on a guy like Clowney or Teddy at #3 unless you can command a kings ransom and even then, we are still without a QB or an elite pass rusher.
LEONARD FOURNETTE FAN CLUB PRESIDENT. I WAS BEHIND HIM WHEN YOU ALL SAID HE WAS BRANDON JACOBS. QUIT HATING ON THE JAGUARS. GUS IS GONE. COUGHLIN HAS RESTORED ORDER. FOURNETTE IS FRED TAYLOR. DONT BELIEVE ME JUST WATCH.
Quote:2003 #7 Leftwich MISS I count 9 first round misses. If Reggie Williams is a miss then so is Marcedes. Reggie wuz a gud blockor two.
Quote:Jameis would be the guaranteed #1 pick today if he were eligible. Notice I said "#!1 QB prospect" obviously Clowney had all the buzz in the offseason. Next year Jamies' game will be picked apart and over-scrutinized, the same way they are doing Teddy. Barkley was seen as a once-in-a-generation prospect not to long ago himself.

He's been around a long time and has played at a generally high level. I'll give that one to Shack, it was the right pick in the spot. Just because you don't personally like a player, doesn't mean he's a bust. He's been our best first round selection since HenderStroud.

Yes, he's overpaid. But when he is not that bad. Has had a nice career here, hopefully he gives us a couple of good years coming up with a new QB throwing him the ball.

That's the EXACT same thing you guys are doing to Jameis, I'm just pointing out that it doesn't always play out like that and Jameis will be under a much, much larger microscope next season.

Quote:http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d82...aft-status Yes Barkley was consired a possible #1 pick, along with a lot of other people (even Blaine at some point). Barkley doesn't have the arm, the size, or the mobility of a Jameis. They're not even close. While I agree that Jameis may not be a #1 pick overall - he is already far ahead of scrubs like Barkley. We don't know how 2014 will be for him, but I think if he does similar things in 2014 he should be one of the early favorites for the #1 pick overall.

The only once in a generation players I've heard of in recent years have been Luck and Clowney, with Clowney getting more accolades than even Luck.

Quote:http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d82...aft-status Sorry, but there's nothing there that even remotely suggests "once in a generation" as has been used by many to describe Luck and Clowney.

Quote:Sorry, but there's nothing there that even remotely suggests "once in a generation" as has been used by many to describe Luck and Clowney. You get the point. Both Barkley and Jameis are being projected as the #1 overall pick a year in advance. That doesn't mean jack-squat. Jameis will have a chance to solidify his spot on the field next season, in the same way a player like Hundley or Mariotta could leap up and jump him.

Quote:Go back and read what I've posted, I've already said so. The Texans seem to agree, and the fact he's not the consensus #1 pick (and that he may not even be the first QB taken in the draft) says enough. He's not even close to Clowney as being the best player in the draft. The only reason he'd ever made it into the conversation is because he plays the QB position. It's the same reason you're hearing Manziel's name as well. And just the same, neither is the caliber athlete/prospect Clowney is.It is not about the physical abilities when it comes to the qb position The qb position in the NFL is the most unique position on the field because isn't through physical dominance you excel, it is the above the shoulder operation that makes you a great qb Qb intangibles and smarts are more important than how far you can throw
Pirkster
I see were your coming from in terms of a prospect, but the qb position is different. You can have all the arm strength in the world and olympic track speed but fail hard in the NFL if you aren't accurate, able to dissect defenses, make the proper reads at the LOS etc Being an elite pro qb is one of the most difficult things in the world to master, hence why there are so few of them If arm strength and physical tangibles was all it took, Leaf and Russell would be Gold JAcket wearers
Quote:I count 9 first round misses. If Reggie Williams is a miss then so is Marcedes. Reggie wuz a gud blockor two. Yep. A wr blocking is similar to a TE blocking. While I generally aren't in line with Pirkster's take on Teddy, I have to agree with his take on Jameis. If he could declare this year, even as a redshirt freshman, Jameis would be the consensus #1 pick. As far as prospect is concerned, he's definitely in that same category as Luck and Clowney.
But just because TB isn't the prospect that Winston is right now doesn't make him any less of a great prospect, especially if you truly believe that he can become the franchise QB we have been searching so long for. Unlike wiseman01, Vagratwade, Kodiak or TMD, I don't predict Teddy to become that exclusive elite QB ala Rodgers, Manning, Brady and Brees; they are a rare breed of QBs that have had set new standards for quarterbacking for the last decade. (So far only Luck has shown the potential to be in that category). Teddy could potentially be a more mobile version of Matt Ryan. And who honestly can say that they wouldn't want a Matt Ryan quarterbacking for this team?

Lets slow down on Jameis, We have only seen one year of production on a amazingly good FSU TEAM, Bridgewater is a much more polished qb at this point. No doubt Jameis is physically more gifted than Bridgewater but that only takes you so far. Regards to Bridgewater, He has enough holes in his game where he can develop into an elite qb 1. He needs to incorporate his entire body into throws which would increase his velocity (he often uses very little lower body) 2. He needs to put on 15-20 and that would help is velocity as well Would not be surprised in the least if he shows up at the combine with elite velocity (if he works with the right qb coach) |
