Why is Teddy Bridgewater is the most overrated prospect on this message board

(This post was last modified: 01-06-2014, 01:01 PM by The Mad Dog.)

Quote:I keep seeing you mention Alex Smith. He has on multiple occasions rose to the challenge when asked to do more then manage a game. He threw for 378 yards with an 8.22 average and 4 T'S against indy without his best player on the field.

Indy's defense stunk for large portions of this year including in the WC playoff game. They gave up huge points on too many occasions this season.

Andy Dalton has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's not the QB a team needs to lead them in the playoffs. He's got a stacked team around him and still has proven far ineffective. He's 0-3 in the playoffs now, and just threw his first (and only) playoff TD on Sunday, to go along with 6 INT's over that span.

Quote:Are you SURE about that?  The Gator fans around here tend to overrate their own team, and by extension, overrate the competition that beats them.  The Bridgewater hype started just after the Sugar Bowl, and has been steadily building steam.  It's not like Louisville is a one-man team either.  They quietly had one of the best defenses in the country this year.

Which is actually my biggest question mark about Bridgewater:  How will he fare against elite competition?  The best team he faced this year was UCF.  We know how that ended.  Their unranked bowl game opponent was a joke, too.

It's one thing when the University of Cincinnati is sending their best at your best, and another

thing entirely when you have Watt in your face or Mathis at your waist.

Interesting. A.J. McCarron beat Florida, as did Aaron Murray. Are they overrated by fans on this board?

For that matter, do they overrate the Georgia Southern QB, too?

I'm not against drafting him, mind you, I'm just agreeing he's overrated by this board.  And there are many reasons, but one is the Gator factor.  It's so ingrained here, I'm sure it just doesn't occur to people - especially the fans posting.  And I'm not sure he's the best QB in the draft.  In fact, odds are, he's not.

I have no doubts Elam is correct after reviewing the Gators 2012 schedule.  That still doesn't mean he's the best QB in the draft, or the best choice for Jax at #3.

Murray?  Absolutely.

There were a few threads started about him, too.  At least he's faced some stiff competition, as has McCarron, who I feel is underrated.  Hell, he's been ignored, but then, a victory against this year's Florida team lacks some cache after the Georgia Southern debacle.

Bridgewater beat Florida, and beat them soundly, in the 2012 season when Florida was actually nationally regarded.  That counts for something around here.

C'mon, Bullseye, you're a veteran of these boards.  You've never seen this happen around here before, where a certain player gets bigger props because he performed well against Jax's adopted college team?

Sorry folks...posting from a tablet isn't seamless.

My question to anonymous is as follows:

You indicate the board overrates Bridgewater due to his win over Florida.

A.J. McCarron and Aaron Murray beat Florida. Are they overrated here?

For that matter are Georgia Southern's QB and Stephen Morris overrated here too?

No.

I've always seen Gator players overrated here, but not players that performed well against the Gators. At least not that recall. Do you have any examples?

The more I watch of Teddy the more I'm afraid he may be a game manager rather than a play maker.  I still would take him if he is there at 3 since he has great accuracy and seems to be good at adjusting at the line of scrimage.

Same can be said about Brady and Manning

No reason why he isn't the best qb in the draft

Brady and Manning are considered game managers by nature

1. Don't turn the ball over

2. Don't force the issue in tight coverage unless they have the ideal matchiup

3. Pick apart defenses

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Do you really know what a game manager is? Because calling Brady and Manning game managers would insult them.

Picking apart a defense is not something a "game manager" does. A game manager goes with the flow of the game. Manning doesn't "manage" the game. He runs  it. Manning dictates every singe play that happens in the game. Franchise QB's do not "manage."

Alex Smith and Flacco are game managers. They need good pieces around them to help them manage the game. Manning and Brady do it no matter who they are playing with.

It isn't that simple

But Louisville wasn't on the Gators' 2012 schedule. The Cardinals were invited to the Sugar Bowl, as were the Florida Gators. There's a big difference between inferring the two teams had any kind of annual date agreement and the ambush that took place in New Orleans.

The stubborn fact is Bridgewater had a solid month to prepare for the single game, and, his head coach retained enough inside information on Gainesville to pull off the upset.

Bridgewater has had a favorable environment in which to appear. His entire college career has been seeing-eye to enlarge what talent he has.

How does that work out in the NFL?

Gators had a solid month to prepare for the single game, and had NFL caliber defense to boot
