Las Vegas Shooting

(This post was last modified: 10-02-2017, 03:18 PM by KingIngram052787.)

Something I find interesting that I can't find anywhere on the news (although I am working and haven't been able to keep up all day) is that a distant relative of mine is currently in Vegas and posted a picture on Facebook of the news on TV from what appears to be his hotel room where the headline reads "Reports of active shooter on the strip." However, he went back and edited his post to read as follows:

"I posted this picture minutes before a shooter/shooters entered into Caesar's Palace where all of us were (after just eating at one of the restaurants inside) and started shooting. Hundreds of people ran out of the casino and we all found our way to safety. Apparently there were multiple shooters and the police moved in with machine guns and armored vehicles, including tanks. The reports say one of the shooters has been killed."

No one has said anything about Caesar's Palace, at least not that I have seen.

I think what most people want is to make it harder for everyone to buy guns. Not take away your guns but lets make it very difficult to get them. Even if it deters one crazy person from buying a gun because it's that hard, it's worth it.

Buying illegal guns will still happen but I have no clue where to buy them. Couldn't even tell you where to start. This guy most likely didn't buy his off the street.

What harm is done by attempting to limit the amount of guns a person can legally buy and having it become harder to buy a gun?

In NC it is not easy peasy to buy a gun of any kind. You go to a gun show and you will sit there and wait for them to do a background check on you. And since you're not the only one there to buy a gun, you'll be there for a while. After there were many robberies in our area several years ago we went to a local gun/pawn shop to buy a shotgun and had to wait for a background check there as well. Private gun sales are another matter. Unless the seller is super careful and does a background check on the buyer, that is an easier way to get one.

Each state has different laws. It may be easier to get one in FL or NV than in NC.

Any hotel guest could have been simply and easily framed as "the shooter". I'll withhold my opinion on Stephen Paddock until I get more information.

I understand.

Confused ... ya know, Charles Manson wasn't actually at the Tate household when they got brutally murdered so I'm withholding my opinion on him as well.

From what I just read on the Fox News Site, he bought over 30 weapons and his Father was a psychopathic Bank robber

From Fox News: The deadly cache included converted, fully automatic AR-15 style assault rifles with high capacity magazines, according to a law enforcement source. The weaponry suggests Paddock passed numerous FBI background checks.

He passed numerous extensive and lengthy background checks OR he made or bought a $2 part? Which is more likely? Since anybody with a Coke can and a nail file can fashion a fully automatic sear, we have to ban all guns! Right now!

So the guy was a multi-millionaire. Would explain how he managed to get all those guns in and not arouse suspicion. The staff/maids unlikely to question too uch of a high roller who was also probably a regular.

Would you like to come to my house and to try and take mine? Banning guns in America would start a civil war. Of this, I am sure.

Screams gun control considering the brothers statement, find who sold him the gun.

Semi-Automatic weapons are pretty common and they have been the subject of a lot of debate over the last few years. You have to physically pull the trigger every time you take a shot. In this case however, the shooter reportedly used a fully automatic weapon which from my understanding, is a federal offense to own. You simply hold back on the trigger with those weapons and they keep firing until you let off. People can modify semi-automatic weapons to make them automatic, but if you get caught, you will go to prison for a long time. I'm not for sure, but I believe they might be classified as weapons of mass destruction.

In any case, this is an extremely sad and terrible situation. I was expecting to find out it was some radical terrorist, but instead it's some old white guy that caused this horrible massacre. What the Hell? Prayers go out to all the dead, injured, their families and all those people who were at the concert.

not exactly, it's legal to own a fully automatic weapon you just have to pay a heavy license fee and accept being subject to random inspections when ever the feds want. It's called an FFL license and you also need it to transfer weapons between private parties.

As for converting semi-auto's to fully auto it's not easy to do, and very illegal.

The housekeeping staff isn't going to open up luggage or even look inside of a closet while a guest occupies a room. It wouldn't be difficult to conceal so many weapons in a large luxury suite.

Yeah and from the sounds of thing this was a regular haunt of his.

Apparently they found 23 guns in his room. I know he's obviously deluded but that still seems a ton for one guy.

Number of guns in irrelevant. Many collectors have many more. There is and should be no limit on how many guns you can own. If I see a gun I like I buy it. I own different guns for different styles of carry.

For a hotel room isn't that odd? I can understand having a large gun collection just seems weird that a lone gunman would have that many in the hotel room.

I can't recall a lone gunman attack where they had that much guns in his direct vicinity.

I agree. People should own as many firearms as they want, so long as they pass the background checks and the gun is legal to own. You can only regulate guns to a certain point. Since the ones the shooter had were purchased legally and he passed the background checks, there is essentially nothing that could have prevented this tragedy. No one knows what evil thoughts and plans go on in the minds of other people. Apparently, this guy was a Jeckyl and Hyde type and he hid the evil half very well. If people show no signs of disturbing behavior and just snap all of a sudden, it's just one of those terrible things that happen in life which are unavoidable. Only the shooter could've stopped himself.
