LEO

#1

Well it's official: Jaguars will select Teddy, Bortles, or Johnny with the 3rd overall pick. So which LEO candidates do we target in the 2nd?

It is possible we go Clowney if the #1 and 2 picks are QBs. But, anyway, I'll play along. Would love to see Trent Murphy fall to us but Ryan Shazier and Kyle Van Noy is a possibility.

Dang, there are a lot of guys I'd like in the second round. JA is a beast and would be the perfect LEO in our system.

Just roll with it for the sake of discussion.

Wherever and whoever Leo is, I'll have two please.

I just hope it doesn't turn into this mythical creature like the dreaded "DPR" from the Del Rio era.  Always promising, never delivering.

So much this. "DPR" stood for "Disastrous, Pathetic Reach" more often than not. A solid DE is a solid DE, no matter what fancy label you want to put on him.

I don't think it's a sure thing at all that the Jags go QB in round one. I'd actually be pretty stoked if the team traded down, maybe with the Browns or Falcons, and grabbed Anthony Barr. Given what Bradley's talked about the position entailing, Barr's middle name might as well be Leo.

Fine I'll play.

Van Noy at #39. High motor, big time sack artist, a bit undersized which fits the LEO position perfectly, team player, and most importantly he's a "Gus" guy.

If we draft Shazier he'll be playing WLB.

Any thoughts on Dee Ford? I haven't seen a ton of Auburn this season, but he showed up in the Texas A & M game with two sacks, and got good pressure last night versus the FSU Offensive Line. Rob Rang states that he can be had in the Third Round.

<p style="margin-left:40px;">"...Ford, a senior, has similar size restraints, which make his projection to the NFL a tricky one. Teams who utilize an undersized "LEO" defensive end could keep the 6-foot-2, 246-pound pass rusher on the line in pass-rushing situations but most see his best fit in the NFL as a stand-up pass rusher in the 3-4 alignment
..."

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Van Noy would be a fairly big reach with our 2nd rounder. He had a major down year after Ansah left. He's probably not even a top 15 outside pass rusher in this class anymore.

Deacon, I mentioned Ford in my Pass Rusher rankings thread and he would be perfectly good at 39, along with guys like Murphy, Lawrence, Crighton, and Attachou.

I wouldnt worry about that.  The OC saying positive things about both Chad Henne & Blaine Gabbert makes me think that both might remain next year while I do think that a QB will be drafted I doubt it'll be #3 overall pick.
