This Week in the AFC South-Week 9
|
2-0 last week, 16-8 overall.
Jaguars over Bengals - I'll be happy with any type of win, but there is no excuse for not blowing Cincinnati out. Looking at common opponents (Steelers, Colts, Ravens & Texans) the Jags have a scoring differential of 130-23. Against those same teams, the Bengals are 47-85. Let that sink in for a moment... ...then factor in that our strengths (D-line, secondary, rushing) will be hitting them right where they are the weakest (O-line, passing game, run stopping). All Blake has to do is hand the ball off to Fournette/Yeldon/Ivory and throw a few jump balls to Lewis and that will be enough to win. The quality of our secondary will let us load the box and blitz Dalton until he leaves the game, then blitz his replacement. If we lose this game after having 2 weeks to prepare, "One-in-a row" Marrone should be on the hot seat. I'm expecting a 30-9 score. Colts over Texans - I really wanted to be entertained by Watson some more this year, darnit. The time off his legs will be used to study film and he should come back even better next year. I'm pulling for him. However, the Texans are hurting without him and the losses have reached a point where they might not be competitive again until next year. I'm picking the Colts to win a close game, something like 20-17. Titans over Ravens - Baltimore can't win this game, but Tennessee could lose it. Flacco will probably have the jitters and be about as effective as he usually is, which is marginally. Something like 24-13 is my guess for the final score.

Jaguars --- Given the Jags performance at home, I am really tempted to go Bengals here.
Colts --- Changed this pic after the Watson injury Ravens --- Wishful thinking perhaps? 15-9 overall so far.
Week # 8 Results: 2-0
Overall Results 18-6 Week # 9 selections: Jacksonville Houston Tennessee

That's the routine bye week for the most part-injured players get healthier . But the bye week ended in anything but routine fashion, as the Jaguars made a trade before the trade deadline to acquire Pro bowl DT Marcell Dareus from Buffalo for a conditional 6th round pick that could go as high as a 5th. While Houston did not share the Jaguars' bye week, last week was quite eventful for the Texans, as several players walked out of practice after a meeting with Texans' owner Bob McNair, who apparently said something in a way that didn't sit too well with several players, including LT Duane Brown, who just ended his holdout of 8 weeks. Most of the team knelt during the anthem as in protest of McNair, then proceeded to play, by most accounts, an instant classic of a game against Seattle. The next day, the Texans traded Duane Brown to Seattle for 2nd and third round picks. I think that is a case of McNair wanting to get rid of a disgruntled player, because otherwise it makes ZERO sense to declare you just found your franchise QB after going your franchise's entire existence without one, then trade away the stud LT whose job it is to protect him. I think at least in the short term, the Jaguars got better and the Texans got worse. The bye week/trade deadline time frame was uneventful for the tacks, and while there was a lot of speculation that the Colts were willing to deal WR T.Y. Hilton or CB Vontae Davis, nothing materialized on either of those areas, leaving the Colts unchanged and in last place. On a board/personal note, I was finally able to get my record above .500 for the first time. Let's hope I can stay there after this week.Well I am picking: Jags, Colts, and Ravens (this is the most difficult one, but that Ravens D is good, Flacco is back). 8-1 overall. Congrats Tacks, you win this week, and thanks to Ramsey you will prob win next week too. Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster The Home Hypnotist!
