ESPN: Johnny Manziel a good fit for Jaguars..

#21

Quote:Put Bridgewater or Manziel behind the NFL's worst offensive line?

The problem with the late season 4-4 surge the Jaguars had is it began to make less knowledgeable football fans believe the Jaguars aren't so bad. What we saw in reality was any number of unmotivated, sluggish players supernova attempting to fight off their own demise.

Doesn't matter which ordinary, NON-elite quarterback you want the Jaguars to take.

The stubborn fact is our offensive line is the worst in the NFL. There's a crumple factor at quarterback just as there has been for the past six years.

Bridgewater and Manziel should go to an offense that can carry the weight of a fresh-faced rookie QB.

Meanwhile, we keep to the process of developing Blaine Gabbert. At year four, he should be prepared by the franchise and treated as the starting quarterback. The Jaguars can draft a quarterback much later than round three.

We need to focus on drafting elite talent. Best player available regardless of position.

Nothing wrong with Jake Matthews or Taylor Lewan at the three spot.

Man...if only there was a way, that we could sign players to bolster our offensive line before the draft.

He has some kind of intense desire for O line drafting. Did the same thing last year, too.

I believe we may have our OTs, but the interior needs an overhaul. I could see a couple mid-round draft picks, perhaps a FA (Mack?), and UDFA. I expect the interior to look vastly different. Minimum: two new starters with possibility of three new starters.

He's Doug Flutie 2.0, and all that comes with it.

It's not just his scrambling ability, either.  I'd still prefer Bridgewater or Bortles.  Both of them can scramble enough for my tastes.

Two new starters?  Quite the bold prediction.  Meester is retiring, so that's at minimum one new starter.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

I'm slowly more and more gaining a want for Manziel. When he got up in the face of the WR and the defense and pulled them to win, that shows a lot. I'm not saying he's better than Bridgewater, but I'm not saying he's not either. I wouldn't mind taking him if Bridgewater is gone. But I still have to lean on TB if he's there...

GO JAGS!!

I like Manziel but for the reasons cited above.

I don't advocate picking him.

My gut tells me he's going to have a couple of good seasons somewhere and then the injuries mount and he ends up with a Chad Pennington-type of career in the NFL.

He should be fun to watch regardless and I wouldn't hate Caldwell for taking him - but I'd be surprised if he did.

I'm all for Manziel at 3 and would be surprised if he wasn't the pick.

First of all, y'all know DiRocco's back story right? He was the Florida Gator beat man for the Florida Times Union for over a decade, and is a well known Tebow fanboy/apologist/homer. Of course the Tebow loving ESPN would give him of all people their new Jags team blogger job.

Second, we've been over how stark the similarities between the Tebow and now JFF cults are. It was a given he would be a massive Manziel homer too.

FYI, he also says if they don't get JFF at 3 they should take McCarron or Mettenberger in the 2nd, so he is also an SEC honk at it's finest.

I'm not really wanting to bash the guy, but he obviously isn't coming from an objective viewpoint.

With that said would you still pick Manziel?

There are I think 8 players that Dave could pick as of right now that I would be fine with, but Manziel is 6th or 7th on that list. Wouldn't be mad, but also wouldn't pick him myself no.

That list for me in order right now is Teddy > Bortles > Clowney > Mack > Sammy > Carr > Manziel > Barr.

Then you must not like good quarterbacks, One of the most important traits of a quarterback is the ability to scramble when he is under pressure.

So is Bridgewater, FWIW.
