The NFL would suspend Michael Bennett if being a hypocrite were against the rules

Back in 2012, Bennett played in Tampa Bay under then head coach Greg Schiano, who on two different occasions infamously ordered his defense to fire off on the opponent in victory formation. (Same scenario as Sunday.) It was controversial at the time, with some players and coaches around the league calling it dirty, while others defended the directive under the “play to the final whistle” mantra. Despite being his own team, Michael Bennett was one of those who was critical.

People just really hate it when you have to dive at people’s legs,” Bennett told NFL.com’s Michael Silver as Schiano’s time in Tampa wound down. “At the end of the day, we’ve got to keep going and move onto the next game and try to make a living. Some of these guys [on other teams] are our friends.”

"Go back and watch that video again and focus on the middle of the line, where you’ll see No. 71 in white firing off harder than anyone. That’s Michael Bennett. earlier that same season, same thing – New York Giants in victory formation, Michael Bennett firing off the line, into the knees of the Giants offensive line, with more gusto than anyone else on the defense."

And there he was again Sunday, rolling into the knees of Linder not once but twice, the second a clear attempt to do nothing else but take the knees out from under an upright opponent.

He's a coward. Pure and simple.

And his non-suspension by the league is a clear indicator that they value the dollar gained by a potential Seattle playoff berth than they do about the long term health of the players in the games.

To me this is not an issue about the Jags being done wrong, it's about the league making a statement that money trumps all.

If the league will not enforce it's own rules then the players damn sure will. He has put a target on himself.

Hope the Rams decide to pull this crap on the Seahawks. Of course they'd probably actually be punished for it.

And yet Roger is about to get a new contract. It's horse crap.

I hated seeing Bennett go after the knees of Linder after the snap, it's a total bush move but to be honest that isn't suspendable or fineable. What happen after the play when Bennett deliberately grabbed Linders leg... twisted it.. drove him to the ground... jumped on top of him .. and then appeared to try and stomp on him... THAT was 10000% suspendable and I was SHOCKED that he wasn't. What I believe Bennett was doing was trying to was find cracks within the rules and force the clock to stop... Either by causing both teams to have a penalty or an offensive injury timeout. He is a total coward and eventually karma will catch up to him.

Linder should file a grievance against Bennett with the union. Shouldn't player safety be a high concern with them? But I really wouldn't expect a union to land on the right side of anything.

I'm not a fan of the union head and have a feeling the next contract is going to be ugly.  There is a bunch of bad blood getting ready to make the talks vicious.  I don't know how/why Roger got a fat raise.

I seriously doubt bennett has any friends left among the players now....mostly enemies after doing this so many times.

I don't care that he went for the ball. It's not illegal.

What he did towards Linder is unacceptable though. That has no place on the field.

Fines have been issued from the incident. LF was fined...Bennett was not.

The League issued nearly $85,000 in fines to several players and coaches. Who didn’t receive a fine? Michael Bennett. No wonder attendance at NFL games is down.
