Bortles the clear cut favorite to go #1 according to report

#1

Draft Insider Tony Pauline writes that UCF QB Blake Bortles is a "clear-cut favorite" to be the Texans' pick at No. 1 overall.

Pauline believes Texans owner Bob McNair prefers Johnny Manziel, but Bortles is a "Bill O'Brien type of passer," and Houston seems likely to lock in on signal callers with the draft's top pick. Bortles has drawn media comparisons ranging from Jake Locker to Andrew Luck. In his latest mock draft, Pauline pencils in Bortles at No. 1, and Texas A&M LT Jake Matthews at No. 2 to St. Louis.

If this is true, St. Louis' draft spot just got a whole lot more valuable.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

If this is true, we get a franchise QB this may.

And much rejoicing to be had in Jacksonville!

Unless the Browns trade up to leapfrog us.

if this happens we just have to hope whoever moves up to 2 doesnt take Manziel

This would be fantastic. I don't see in Bortles what everybody else seems to see.

And even still Tony P has us passing on a QB for Clowney in his mock.

If this is true, NFL executives think more like me and less like the people on this board that Bridgewater is a "can’t miss" prospect. There is a better chance he is 2014's Geno.

Clearly supported by Tony Pauline himself stating this on his selection of Bridgewater for the Browns:

Johnny Manziel will be a fan favorite and will get consideration at this spot but the Cleveland Browns cannot miss on this pick.  Bridgewater is the closest they’ll get to a can’t-miss signal caller.

Best case scenario. Texans draft Bortles then Cleveland leapfrogs us for Manziel. We take Teddy 3rd overall without giving up any picks.

I don't know if you can take Teddy over Clowney. Tough choice.

All three: Teddy, Manziel, and Bortles are winners, but I feel Teddy/Johnny elevate their team to a higher level while Bortles does not crap the bed. Only a few reasons why I think a team would take Bortles over Manziel. Size/Durability, Alcohol, and Renegade personality.

id say best case if the team at 2 takes Teddy and we have our choice between Clowney and Manziel

I'd take Teddy over anyone unless I already had a QB.

Teddy is the best QB in this draft, hands down. There were the same type of articles on Luck and RG3 doubting them. Some draft insider always had the inside scoop about what teams thought. Didn't influence teams one bit.

I don't either. I mean, I'd still draft him later in the first round....but I don't see Bortles as the kind of "can't miss" prospect you'd take in the top 5, let alone, 1st overall.

I don't see any of the three as can't miss.

I also don't take any stock whatsoever in any of these reports at this time of the year.

I HIGHLY doubt Bortles will be the 1st pick in the draft...

So much so, that I will leave this board for a year if it were to happen.

Like others have stated, I don't see what is so intriguing about him to make a substantial jump from an "almost nobody" before this college football season to a "surefire #1 draft pick."
