What evidence? The evidence that shows we match up well against New England?

How many Jags games did you watch this year?
As you know, there weren't many opportunities to watch the Jags this year. I do know that 2 TE sets seem to give their D trouble. Also, their defense ranks in the bottom 10 when teams use only 1 or 2 receiver sets. I've also heard from several "experts" on national TV and Sirius XM shows, that screen passes (NE's receivers and backs excel at this) give them hits. You would know better than I how true that is, but the Steelers, Titans, and 49ers carved them up pretty well.

NE's defense is just as stingy as the Jags giving up points.

NE has home field, experience, better coaches, a 75% Brady is still better than Bortles, NE always gets its points, especially when teams blitz.

Jags are well coached, have a very good RB, great defense, a QB who can run, but is very prone to having real stinkers.

Bottles will have to play mistake free and make plays with his legs. The Jags will have to get to Brady while rushing only 4. NE just has to play their game.

What evidence is there that the Jags match up well to the Pats, especially on the Jags offensive side?

The only evidence I've personally seen is the last two weeks games. Jags defense was impressive, to pretty much stone the Steelers offense (taking away the 3 deep balls), and to shut down the Bills the week before.

The bad news is the Pats offense may not be as loaded with talent as Pittsburg, but their scheme is much more difficult to slow down, never mind stop.

If Dareus / Campbell can get in Brady's face consistently, it'll go down to the wire. I can see them doing that...I'm not impressed with Thuney or Andrews (LG & C) when it comes to protecting Brady against those two.

I'm hoping to see more rushes than passes tomorrow for the Pats. Best way to keep Brady upright in this game.

No worries on my part. I've had to do it a few times in the past. That's the price of visiting opponents forums...and it SUCKS when it happens...Smile

I'll post my props, take the heat....then crawl into a hole until the draft, avoiding sports talk radio, message forums & the like for months.

Win or lose, I'll be here.

I’m anticipating running mostly out of nickel against the Pats. We have enough speed and defensive backs that can hit to keep up with Gronk and the receivers. Our DL can rush without help, so we can afford to keep more defenders back.

Granted, your defense is stingy as you say. Our offense is actually one of the best in the red zone. We can drive the field, run the clock, and score. Odds are if we get into the red zone, we’re scoring.

Don’t worry about blitzing because most of my pressure is from the front.

Your point about Home field, experience, coaching, etc. is true. I can’t really refute any of that, but Bortles, when he’s on point, can sling the ball AND has some wheels on him.

Bortles isn’t “prone” to having bad games. He only had a couple this year. This isn’t the Bortles of years passed. He’s young so he makes mistakes, but outside of just a couple of games, he’s been very solid this year.

Your last comment shows that you don’t follow the Jags. The mistake-free I agree with. He doesn’t need to use his legs to beat New England. He just needs to be mistake-free. Numerous teams played us and numerous times they thought all they had to do is make Bortles throw. Most of them were unsuccessful. Again, we get most of our pressure with 4 linemen.

You make it seem like all New England has to do is show up. These two teams are perfectly matched up. You guys keep downplaying that. I think, even both teams show up, then it’ll be a very close game coming down to turnovers. If Brady’s off just a little, and the Jags show up then I think they run away with it.

The DL is going to rip Brady apart.

He can cover the injury with a glove all he wants but that's not going to matter when Campbell, Yannick, Fowler and crew are slamming him into the ground and stripping the football.

Its time to shock the football world Jags fans and tear down the Patriots.

Consider it done. If the Jags win, I'll be 100% rooting for them in the SB.

I don't envy whatever AFC team moves on if the Viking win. Talk about HOA. It'll have to be a silent count offense for the Jags or the Pats in that environment.

Back to the original point of this post. The difference in how the teams look. If you follow NE at all you realize that is how they are all the time. It's robotic there.  Focus on the details, execute and stick to your plan.

Very few times have I seen NE get away from the no matter who the opponent or what game it is.  I would be worried if they did.

There was a video a month or so ago on the NFL website that showed BB on the sidelines. Every time the pats scored he was a blank stare. A sack he didn't move, didn't get excited didn't anything. The only emotion he showed was for a good block by the #2 TE. Lol

If NE were to get all excited and emotional I would be worried.

As it is I'm looking forward to this game. I think it' going to be a great game to watch. I was so happy the Jags beat the Steelers because I was getting so tired of them.  It  great to see a new opponent.  Especially one with the youth and energy of the Jags. Win or lose for the Pats I'm excited for this game.

I hate to admit this however I must. I want to see the Vikings make it through, whether they play the Jags or Pats because a home game for a Super Bowl would be wild!!!

That being said. Thanks for being great fans, best of luck on Sunday and congrats on an excellent season (so far)

I didn't mean for it to seem that all NE has to do is show up. That was the Steelers' problem. These are the Jags in the AFCCG, not the Browns in September. Games rarely live up to the hype, but this one might.

You guys seem like a good bunch.

This will definitely be a great game. I got tired of watching pitt lose to the pats in the title game. We all know the outcome of that one. It’s time a new challenger step up to the king. This team was built for the pats. The jags have 3 legit starters at corner. 2 all pros and one that could be top 15-30 guy on the outside. Church gives our safeties the versatility to play deep and short and Gipson is the safety to watch for he’s a play maker although church has made huge plays himself this year.

What makes the jags so dynamic is the line backers and world will see that first hand. We legit have two linebackers that are capable of covering wideouts. Telvin is an all pro and Jack is an athletic freak. Their is college tape of him flexing out wide and covering receivers 40 yards down the feild. The speed is gonna be crazy.

Offensively we are solid. Not as dominant as the ranking show but a lot better than most people would think (check the rankings lol). Bortles doesn’t have to run at all to be effective. Actually the bills game is proly the most running he’s done all year. He is a guy that hangs in the pocket and slide and moves to buy more time. The running aspect is just a different dimension. If the pats spy him all game they will be upset and that will leave people open down the feild.

A lot of this may sound like gibberish and thats expected. Most people haven’t watched one game of the jags all year. Their first taste was most likely the bills playoff game. This defense has 11 bonafide staters and goes about 14-15 deep with a few more guys who rotate off the bench that would be full time starters on other teams. The o line has been a great unit. No one dominant player just a full unit with the best blocking tight end helping. Fournette will be an issue but Yeldon might be the X factor. He’s the type of spell back that can make 9 carries be 110 yards and catch another 5 passes for 70 yards and a td. Although we don’t have any dominant receiver it works to our benefit. Blake can go through progressions and just find the open man. Add to that a lot of our receivers have played in different spots this year they can create mismatches. We have a lot of speed at receiver and that will Be another shocker during the game.

This will a show down of the two best teams in the afc. Brady is my favorite player ever. He’s the king. But the king will be dead at 7pm on Sunday. Off with his head. The jaguars will take over the kingdom.

IMO - Telvin has had his share of mistakes in coverage this season still. He still bites on the RB movement too often when dropping back on a TE or slot receiver.

However - he and Jack are definitely two of the best in the league when forced to drop back.

Great post. While I'm confident the Pats will roll, I'd rather they lose in the AFCCG than in the SB, if that makes sense. When NE lost those SBs to the Giants, I don't pay attention to football until the draft. It sucks!

Anyway, if the Pats lose tomorrow, I hope they win the whole thing. I just hope it doesn't come to that!

Agreed.

I think these guys will be dialed in. To me, their lack of high calaiber opponents is why they won 10 games instead of 12-13 in the regular season. These guys will be on their ps and qs tomorrow. Especially Telvin.

Spent the day at the Gloucester (Mass) Elks in a Jaguars jersey and hat, fighting with good-natured Patriots fans (I had a Patriots hat on for balance). One thing that came through very clearly was that they wanted to play Pittsburgh b/c they "have their number". The Jags are an unknown and, therefore, worrisome.

The second thing is Brady's hand- it is on everyone's mind from talk shows to bartenders to newspaper, it is the thing here. The rumors are rampant, from broken thumb to 14 stitches to whatever.

Third, nobody knows anything about the Jaguars. They know it's a good defense and they know a little about BB5 but beyond that, the team is a mystery.

I just looked at the Vegas line. -7.5. You get 3 for being the home team. Their is a more than enough reason to take the jags and the odds makers know it.

Belichick is very boring at press conferences and doesn't like to talk. The players probably reflect that. Marrone is somewhat boring but likes talking. He also is OK with our players being a little more out-spoken and relaxed as long as they handle business throughout each week. I think it's a good work hard, play hard approach.

Interesting tweet from Jeff Darlington:

@JeffDarlington
Excellent week in Jacksonville. I’ve covered plenty of teams — and I can’t overstate the long-term potential of this group.

I don’t know what happens tomorrow, but I’m fully convinced this group has the chemistry and the ability to win big for the next several years.

ABOUT US
The Jungle Forums is the Jaguars' biggest fan message board. Talking about the Jags since 2006, the Jungle was the team-endorsed home of all things Jaguars.

Since 2017, the Jungle is now independent of the team but still run by the same crew. We are here to support and discuss all things Jaguars and all things Duval!
