I thought Cruz and Paul were the only real conservatives in the race. However, Trump's policies so far have been very conservative. I doubt any of the others would have accomplished as much. How does the government get shut down when the Republicans control the White House and both sides of Congress?

I think it's because Trump himself can't seem to take a position and stick to it. Every time he extends some sort of offer, or agrees to anything, someone on his staff pulls him back. Democrat: "Let's have a clean DACA bill." Trump: "That's a good idea." Some other Republican: "Oh, no Mr. President, we can't do that." Trump: "We're not doing that." That actually happened in the meeting when he allowed the press in and they recorded it. Several times, he's agreed to stuff, and then changed his mind. At this point, he needs to tell people what exactly he will agree to, and stick to it. But right now, no one is sure what he's in favor of.

There is a HUGE difference between polls which had Hillary in the lead by 5-7% and a poll which only shows only 36% of Americans approving of Trump's job, so far. Polls are flawed, but they would have to be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off for even half of Americans to give him a thumbs up. Whether or not you trust the polls, you have to admit, it's below 50%. No, the military doesn't get paid during this fiasco as some would assume ( https://www.defense.gov/Portals/1/Docume...18-RES.pdf ). This also has a huge impact on DoD child care and other support activities vital to normal operation stateside and abroad. Aside from active folks, reserve, guard, and civilians make up a large portion of the services capability. In any case, not passing a budget because of a completely unrelated issue that can be debated until March (When DACA expires as per previous administration), is asinine no matter how you slice it. This type of dangerous grandstanding is uncalled for and should open the eyes of Americans. Unfortunately, our future and current voters are more interested in eating laundry detergent pods for fun!
1) There was NOTHING in the budget bill that the Dems objected to. 2) Dems didn't vote for the budget bill b/c it failed to give the DACA children amnesty which has nothing to do w/ the budget. 3) Republicans cannot pass this bill w/o 60 votes. It requires partisan support. It doesn't matter that the Republicans control all 3 branches. This puts the blame for the shutdown squarely on Dems. 4) Obama set DACA to expire March 5, 2018 5) They could have passed the budget bill and still had plenty of time to fix the immigration issues before DACA expires. 6) Dems are playing roulette w/ our safety. Choosing the illegal aliens over Americans is asinine. 7) Admin's position to not negotiate until the military is paid is correct stand. America first! 8) Remember Schumer's Shutdown in November hastag!!! ![]()

Also, my impression is that in the 2016 election the national polls were pretty close to accurate, it was the state polls that were off, so the popular vote predictions were pretty correct. Hillary did win the popular vote nationally.
So nice that our Draft Dodger President is so concerned about the Military that he turned his back on during wartime (when his number was called to serve).

The difference is that Trump has his base convinced that he's a true patriot.
