Some thoughts on Blake Bortles

He's 2-5 in the post season including a blown 21-3 halftime lead at home three weeks ago throwing to guys like Kelce and Hill while Bortles is throwing to Lewis and "stone hands" Lee. He's so good Andy Reid traded picks to move up in the first round to take Mahomes to replace him. Do you have a vast knowledge of how many dropped INT's Smith had this year? Also, you might want to see where Alex was 5 years into his career, and compare it to Blake's year this year. Prior to that Smith had Bust firmly attached to his name. I would trade our 2nd or 3rd rounder for Smith. He was one of the best quarterbacks last season and takes care of the ball. He is the only one I'd consider to replace Blake not counting a draft pick who sits for a year.
Remember when smith had 5 picked in 5 games, the offense struggled, and the chiefs went 1-4 to limp into the playoffs and then lost in the first playoff game in a game where the chiefs had less than 60 yards and no points in the second half. Smith has had 2 years with more than 20 TDs in a 12 year career and will be 34 next season. People are acting like he is Brady or Manning because he had a great first half of the season.

Bortles had a good year, a bad year and a decent year. Id like to see competition brought in and at worst, he becomes our overpriced above average backup that signs a team friendly deal as a backup.

And a prowl bowl Tightend and his #1 receiver which BB5 did not. Here is an idea. Lets all put madden down and think about the QBs out there. BB5 way better then smith in his 4th year and Sanfran got rid of him now your saying he is great. Why dont we keep the young QB( who took us basically to the SB minus [BLEEP] coaching and refs) and let him continue to grow. If cousins was so good why does Washington not want to pay him? We need to keep BB5 let him develope into a good if not great QB. He has shown improvement this year lets at least give him a second year in the same system and have TC put a boot in hacketts butt and air it out a little more.
If a team is willing to trade their starting QB, they don’t have as much confidence in him as some of you do. And that worries me. We’re not talking about a young, unproven QB like Garrapolo but a seasoned veteran with just a couple OK years.

At one point the Chiefs had one of the best defenses in the league and they didn't make it to the AFC championship. Why do people think he will come over here and be the savior. What has Alex Smith or Kirk Cousins really done for everyone to feel like they would bring this team over the top? I could see if it was someone like Brees or Aaron Rodgers then it would make sense. Right now we are getting the same production from Blake that we would get from Cousins or Smith. Why not just keep Blake and build on the momentum. Blake is still young and has time to get better. We should take a qb in the draft and let Blake cook. If he starts to regress next year then you make a move but it has to be a good move, not just going after an average qb to say we made a change. Look at our last game, we are supposed to be playing in the Super Bowl right now. Blake stepped up on the biggest stage he has played in and did great . Play calling on offense and defense, + the refs are the reasons we lost. (No type of blame can be placed on Blake at all). I wonder if we would have made it to the Super Bowl would everyone still feel the same way. It just seems like when the media portrayed Blake as a terrible qb everyone just jumped on that and road with it, not realizing he has improved and we were winning, what else you want? I've been waiting for someone to make a topic on it. I guess it's highly probable our 19 million dollar decision got made for us. I doubt Blake is completely done with the rehab process in 6 weeks.

Many games Blake was being Blake, but to our fortune the defenders could not catch easy interceptions alot for pick 6. Alex Smith on the other hand is the same qb as Blake,,,,, except higher completion%, better turnover ratio by alot, can read defenses better, probably more mobile even at 33. We dont need a Drew Brees or break the bank for a bust in Kirk Cousins. We need a dependable qb to get people out the box that can make throws that the coaches believe in. Without knowing how big the damage was we can't predict a recovery time, there are just small keyhole surgeries that are quick to heal but who knows how the situation was with this one, we can only speculate.
We'll see. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Alex Smith had 3 Pro Bowl Linemen, the best RB in the NFL, a great TE and his #1 WR all year long.
And didn't do better than Blake Bortles who had none of those things. Are you kidding me?
Bortles was 11th in passing yards and 11th in attempts, so that combination puts him as an average NFL QB. His TDs were down and his rating because of that, and that's a direct result of Fournette producing in the red zone. When Founette was out BBs stats were better.
Bortles will never be an Aaron Rodgers, but he's on par with Cousins and Smith. It would be stupid to trade for Smith (probably more than our 1st) or pay Cousins a king's ransom to replace Bortles. Very good point about 4net. last year we could not get a rushing TD so BB5 had more passing. This year we were able to run which cut his numbers down some. But bb5 could be Rodgers or a great qb but as long as we have this coaching staff he will be what he is because they do not believe in passing the ball just running no matter who is back there. |
