We should Play-Action or simply pass more on 1st downs.  Hackett was feast or famine.  He had really good games/stretches and some really bad ones.  The bad ones were middle-draw, middle-draw, pass...you can't do that in the NFL unless your O-Line is pushing the D back 5 yards every single down.

Hackett was great in the first quarter for most of the year on the opening script. When he got on a roll the offense clicked beautifully but yeah definitely some barren spells. 

Honestly feel Jaguars fans have a bit of a distorted view of how good a coordinator should be though. 
Theres probably only a handful of fanbases who are consistently happy with their OC.

Alllll their criticism of the QB, RB and other players, and we were 5th in scoring and 6th in yardage.

Clearly both the OC and players suck, not to mention the GM who drafted them.  Also, clearly they were the wrong picks.  

In madden world, or mock draft revisionist history, they had it all wrong.

That's what made AROB  (and Hurns in prior seasons) so effective and valuable to the passing game. Their ability to "contort" and catch passes that aren't thrown perfectly is a real benefit to Bortles. 

Bortles is back next season. I don't think there's an immediate plug and play upgrade to be had. The Jags have already come close to advancing to the Superbowl with BB at the helm. 

Draft a QB and let him develop behind Bortles. 

Next season will be pretty telling. The schedule looks much tougher next season (I know, good teams one season may not be good the next). If these teams are playing at a high level like this year, we'll definitely see how it's going with Bortles.

I like VIC and he is right in his own stance, but I can only imagine what BB can do with AROB back and a true pass catching TE. Can Martinez be that TE?

BB just needs the run game and that happens with better guard play. I'm no expert but if that Jags go Guard with the #1 pick I will be very happy. I was down on BB for his play and decision making, but another year with Hackett and the same Offense will only help BB.

Next years schedule will be telling.

He nailed it. It's tough to explain to a lot of fans why we need a QB, especially those that have been around here for the worst of times. Most are just happy we're winning again. It's been a long time since this franchise has had a game changer at the QB position though. At this point I just hope we don't go another offseason neglecting the position. There are some options out there this offseason. There is really no excuse. I know his surgery makes it all but certain he will be back next season so we might not be able to be in the Cousins bidding, but I hope we don't shy away from making a bold move in the draft. I just want more game winning drives to start feeling like field goals do with Lambo. It was an amazing feeling to go from worrying about extra points to expecting him to hit for over 50 in a championship game.

To put this in perspective, it is a very real possibility that much of the teams previous five seasons can be laid directly at Smith's feet since the only player left on the roster that he had anything to do with is Posluzny.

While Vic is a very good and very experienced writer, it's not like his football analysis is rock solid.

Yeah,

I enjoyed reading the column occasionally.  I disagreed with a solid 25-30% of his "analysis." He knows the game well and was a good resource for me, but some of the individual player talent eval and scheme stuff I didn't fall in line with. 

Wasn't really a big fan, personally, but I enjoyed it more than I didn't.  I don't share the Oehser hate that many have as it turns out. His schtick can be a bit tiring at times and Vic was a bit better writer, but he's not so bad to me.

We didn't miss the boat on Garoppolo, the Browns were ready to give a 1st round pick for him and Belichick still sent him to the 49ers. Fact is, Belichick was never going to trade Garoppolo to an AFC team, no matter what was offered.

Jimmy G hasn't proven JACK.  When a QB goes through some adversity, and displays toughness, that's when they show what they are really made of.

He hasn't done either.  Let's see how he reacts during a losing streak, or whether he can make it 1/2 a season.

I’ve said this in other threads but I guess I have to repeat myself: I have nothing against Bortles and was pleasantly surprised with his performance in the playoffs. But we have seen inconsistency from him. Which Bortles is the real one? That’s the $60,000 question and to me we are gonna find out. This team should not repeat the mistakes of the Shack Harris era and rest on their laurels. Look at the pats; they have Tom freakin brady and they have drafted QBs as high as the 3rd round. Bringing in competition is the most prudent course. Not a high priced FA. Im talking a rookie or two, provided the value is there in the draft. The worst that can happen is we’ve found a young star or Bortles continues to elevate his game become our franchise QB. But a repeat of the Garrard years won’t cut it.
