McCarron skipping Senior Bowl

#1

I really don't get this. Unless you're a lock to be a first round pick I don't understand why you would decline the invite.

Last year, I got why Geno skipped because he was the consensus #1 QB, at least at that time, but in hindsight, I'm sure he could've helped his stock by going.

Some players skip it to make sure they stay healthy for the NFL scouting combine and school pro days. They don't want to be like Michael Crabtree, who wanted to delay surgery just to run the 40-yard dash at the combine, but ended up being unable to do it anyway.

He's not good.

His agent is leading him right. Minimize his exposure and work in a paddless, controlled (easy) environment. Combine/Pro Day. Make the talent evaluators use his game tape to make their final decisions.

Not a smart move. Brohm, Quinn, and Geno all skipped out too. He's not a sure fire first rounder so he needs this to help his stock

Brady Quinn was expected to be the first or second overall pick.

About a month ago, I was actually warming up to the idea of taking McCarron in the second round.

Ha.  Pass.

Skipping the Senior Bowl is small potatoes.

Teddy sand-bagged at Louisville. He avoided competing at the highest level of college football. He actually committed to play major college football then quit for an easier level of competition.

Where did you get that idea from? Louisville is a major college football team at the highest level. I doubt you would say that if the Cardinals were already in the ACC, where they will be next season.

But that was not the case for Brohm, who was mentioned in the same sentence.

He's at best a 5th round pick.

We don't know why he decided to skip it.

I never wanted him anyway because we need to get our quarterback in the first or second round.

I'm sure whichever major college program wished they had done a better job at recruiting him.  *Ahem* LSU and Miami.  NFL translating talent will always triump over the perceived "weak" schedule he played against.  And now he has a very good chance to be a top 3 pick.  So what's your point?  Are you so afraid that a new, young and shiny QB is going to take the place of your mancrush, Gabby?

He's protecting his draft stock. So-so QB prospects are more likely to hurt their draft stock than to help it at the senior bowl throwing to unknown WRs running an unfamiliar offensive scheme. He's better off showing off at the combine/Pro Day where he's not required to do anything but throw.

I did mention several times that I would be shocked if McCarron is drafted in the 2nd round.  I remembered all the Cowney-ites actually believed there was a chance they can get Clowney in the first and McCarron/Murray/Mettenburger/Boyd in the second as the QB of the future. Rolleyes

In my opinion I don't think it would have helped him to be in it anyway.

Where he will throw to unfamiliar receivers...Scouts understand the situation.  They want to see him compete and watch his mechanics and check out his arm strength.  To me it is showing he has something to hide if you ask me.
