Texans #1 pick hint?

Quote:Clowney himself thought he did not have to work hard to be the best defensive prospect the last two seasons. There is a reason Gil Brandt thinks he will be a bust without a very tough position coach - one who can make sure he stays motivated to give 100% effort on every play. Bob McNair obviously knows about his work ethic issue but thinks it is fixable.
A TON of elite athletes find out the hard way that they have to work out in the off-season and not just rely on their athletic abilities. MJ, Lebron, Moss, Sanders, Kobe... They all tried to rely on just their athletic ability at first but later realized they need to put in extra work to become great.

Only Bo Jackson came in, didn't practice, and was still a beast. The fact that Clowney figured that out in college rather than the pros should be a good sign. Give me and elite athlete over someone who just "works hard" any day of the week. You can teach people to train and workout but you can't teach being 6ft 6 with the ability to run a 4.5

Quote:The Jaguars will be much better off by selecting Texas A&M OT Jake Matthews or Auburn OT Greg Robinson.

Matthews is college football's top player over-all. Why would you not want the best football player in college on your team?
Subjective.  And we took that route last year.  Get over it, aint happenin.

Say hi to J.J. Watt.

According to Bob McNair, Watt did not have a lot of natural ability and became an elite player by working hard.

That is relative.

Watt was 6'5 290 coming out of school and ran a 4.8, I call that natural ability especially considering his brute strength

if Bridgewater isn't there, get Clowney

If Manziel is there, pick him.

Whomever we end up picking, that's who i'll support.  I trust Caldwell and his scouting staff to do their job as professionals at what they don't and i'm not gonna act like i know better as a casual fan.  Caldwell couldn't be successful doing my job, so i'll let him do his and hope he does it well.  Whoever the pick is will have my full support (even if i can't stand Manziel as a human!).

Curious as to why. If other college players had pics taken of them at partys and they got posted would you hate them too?

Or is it because how he spends his offseasons?

I think he's a pompous little rich kid with a sense of entitlement.  I think he's an immature headcase and that worries me more than anything else about him in teal.  I just don't like the guy.  That being said, if we pick him, i'll root my butt off for him.

He is not rich yet. Call him rich when he signs a contract.

Give me some examples of immaturity that should deter a team with no good quarterbacks on the roster.

Wrong.  He's a rich kid from a very wealthy family. Know what you're talking about before you argue.

Shaq is probably the example that stands out most to me.

He has rings, riches, and a pretty impressive career for someone who might be the greatest slacker of all time.

Would be a fools errand

Matthews, JImmy G and maybe Fales are all better NFL qbs

I think the extracurriculars are blown out of proportion. We were all 19-20 year olds.

However Manziel as an NFL passer, I don't want to touch with a 100 ft steel pole.

With a gun to my head

Basketball is a more individualistic sport, you can still be dominant with a lack luster team

Shaq coming out of LSU was a better prospect than Clowney coming out of SC...

Shaq was one of the most dominant college basketball players ever

Now if Clowney had a 15-20 sack year while facing constant double teams, we could have an argument

Well, that's exactly what folks are saying about him.  So that argument's already been made.

Did you see the games this year where teams rebuilt their entire gameplan to go away from or otherwise compensate for Clowney on every single play of the game?

He commanded that type of respect.

True, teams were blatantly running away from his side, heck even most of their roll outs were away from him.

Clowney as a prospect is as talented as any player to come out of school in the last 10 years

I am worried that he doesn't have to motor to match his potential and could poop the bed...

If he achieves it or comes close, I will eat my crow in full

Heck people wanted Clowney in the NFL after high school.
