I watched it after the fact on youtube to see the Episcopal preacher who Meghan invited to speak during the service. According to many friends he was cringe worthy and making the folks squirm in their seats. At first I was like, okay. Then he quoted MLK Jr. and I thought- HMMMM.... Then he brought up slavery and I was done. WTHeck brings up slavery during a wedding?! I listened long enough to kind of understand what he was getting at but still- NOT COOL. And either Meghan is a REALLY good actress and kept the same content expression on her face the whole time like a pro, or she was really into what he was saying. I felt bad for Harry. Depending on how this goes I may be feeling bad for him for a long time.

For those who are knowledgeable about such things: I know there are certain things that royals are not allowed to do, such as vote, have a public opinion on politics, not allowed to have their own social media accounts, not allowed to talk to the media off the cuff, etc. Meghan is known to be very outspoken about politics and other subjects the Crown could consider off-limits, she has at the least an Instagram account from what I've heard, and I'm 100% sure she was educated on such things in advance of the wedding, but if she goes off the rail, what does the monarchy do? I know Charles and Andrew had their fair share of controversies back in the day but I don't really know what the Crown's position was on any of it since the internet was either not for public use yet or it wasn't used to broadcast everything everyone does at the time.

All Bishop Curry said about slaves was:

Quote:If you don't believe me, well, there were some old slaves in America's Antebellum South who explained the dynamic power of love and why it has the power to transform.

He went on to elaborate, but it's religious content not appropriate here, but a very positive message regardless. I struggle to find what it was about it anyone could find objectionable. His whole sermon was very positive. Believe it or not, many people find Dr. King to be inspirational, not divisive.

Given her historically documented admiration of Billy Graham, my guess is Queen Elizabeth appreciated Curry's sermon. I hope it made the other Royals uncomfortable.

I suppose my initial objection to the slavery mention was it's something here in America that causes division, period. The word itself causes divisive behavior so why even mention it at a wedding. I did say I could understand what he was getting at. When I went back and read the transcript of that part of his message I didn't have quite the reaction as my initial one.

I love the internet.

We're American men. We've got short attention spans and we get bored easily. Sooner or later every conversation is gonna turn to sex, movies or sports.

That's not exclusive to American men... just saying.

Harry reached across the pond, you act in the same spirit.

That's pretty much where the comparison ends, however.

That's pretty cool, unless his name isn't Harry, then it might confuse him.

It's absolutely a true story.. it's more of a tribute to our love of a well known movie franchise you may have heard of than the Royal Family, though..

My daughter, Lily, is also named with a particular character in the movies in mind, not a main character per se, but one that devotees will have heard of.

Try watching videos on the computer. You can view them in HD. It's much better quality and most sites have them for free. Smile

If anyone's wondering; the wedding cost 1.5 million pounds. The security costs during wedding were 22 million pounds.
