Golf Courses in NE Florida

(This post was last modified: 06-04-2018, 07:55 AM by RicoTx.)

So I played golf at Orange Park County Club yesterday.  I figured it would be wet so I wore an old pair of shoes.  It was so wet, by the second hole the sole had fallen off of my left shoe.  By the 11th hole the right shoe's sole had come off.  And by the 14th hole, the left shoe had pretty much disintegrated.  I thought I was going to have to finish barefooted.

That is rough. I played the other day with my buddy at miccosukee in Miami and had a similar day. I luckily had my flip flops that I had worn to the course in my bag which I switched to after stepping into an ankle deep puddle. I wasn't going to play 12 holes and end with trench foot. It actually worked out relatively well for me.

For once I may be glad I wasn't able to make it out for a round of golf!  That looks kind-of miserable.

I did get to play while on the road last week. Played municipal courses in Toledo Ohio and Rochester, NY.
I stowed a Sunday bag with 8 clubs in the bay of the tour bus this time.  Our sound engineer has always liked to play on days off, but now we have a new merchandise guy and lighting director that also play, so we've got a foursome.  Hoping to play golf in several states this summer.

Finally learning a proper grip has begun to pay off a bit for me. Still having moments of inconsistency and miss hits when I cheat with my right hand, but it's getting there. Wedge work chipping and pitching around the green is much improved now that I can open the clubface and strike the ball accurately. The old grip made that much more difficult than it should have been.

I’ve seen these legs before. By some chance, did you happen to be on St. George street the other night while wearing a sequined flapper dress and ruby red pumps?

I got an impromptu lesson on the driving range Sunday afternoon from a guy who is one of the best ball strikers I’ve ever seen. He’s incredibly consistent and can shape the ball while making it all look effortless. He showed me I wasn’t using my right hand enough (I’m right-handed). I had tuned my swing to make it almost exclusively left side.

After he spent about 30 minutes showing me the physics of how a golf club reacts in motion and the techniques of leverage, I hit a few balls while he provided feedback and I was absolutely astounded. I was striking the ball much purer while achieving greater distance with less effort. He iterated several times, “This is why people should take lessons.” I couldn’t thank the guy enough. Now to work out all of my ingrained bad habits and reinforce what he taught me. I foresee many more trips to the range.

It was probably SF, then.

Anybody up for 18 Holes next week? I was hoping to get together with you in May but had some car trouble and then went north for a few weeks.

I'm hoping to play Bent Creek as I've never been there.

I never go sleeveless due to the farmer tan.

Anywhere is fine by me- I thought BC was the course mentioned earlier as being a favorite (maybe it was Hyde Park?).

Sunday is good but not early. Maybe TR Marty and/or NYC would want to jump in. JagsorDie?

Yeah man I'm game. Bent creek is a decent course. I'm up for anything though. Bent creek or Hyde park.

I haven't played at Hyde Park in years.  Probably at least ten.

I'll tell you what's a good course for the money and deal is Eagle Landing,  The weekend round cost includes breakfast, lunch, and two beers (or other beverage).  $42 senior rate (60 and over).  $52 standard.  Nice course.

That would be just fine- can you book it and I'll meet you there (I'm in St. Augustine)- hopefully JagsorDie can join us?

You know, I'm completely forgetting next Sunday is Fathers Day.  It shouldn't be an issue for me, don't know if it affects anyone else.

Good thing you mentioned that as I was thinking this Sunday but either one is fine. My kids are about 1200 miles away so there's no issue with me for Father's Day.

Too busy this week.  I was thinking you meant next weekend.
