Golf Courses in NE Florida

Had my 3rd lesson today. Finally hit more in the air than along the ground haha.

Curiously I'm better with the longer clubs than the short irons  Huh

As you develop form and technique, proficiency will even out. That is odd, though. Typically it's reversed.

You're doing it right by getting lessons from the beginning and avoiding years of trial and error technique which ingrains bad form and habits.  But not to worry, just when you get comfortable with your game, a day will come along when it seems as if you've never swung a club before. Welcome to the game of golf.

Thanks HB. I took a video of myself swinging. That helped quite a bit. What I pictured looking completely Barkley-esque actually looked almost natural. Half to say though, growing up not having played any stick and ball sports, swing a golf club is weird.

Golf is a game whose aim is to hit a very small ball into an ever smaller hole, with weapons singularly ill-designed for the purpose.

Lessons is the right way to go- almost all of us learned to play on our own and we all pretty much suck at it.

The only advice I'd offer is that I think you can play pretty well if you learn to play from the green back to the tee. Get your putting and short game going and that's more than half the battle (if you shoot 100 for example, about a third of those shots are from putting, another third is pitching/chipping around the green...that's 2/3 of the game right there).

We all know a guy who hits only about 150 off the tee but is deadly from 50 yards in and and is a solid putter. He's always scoring in the 80s. We also know (more) guys who can crush it off the tee over the trees and the houses (same guy goes to the driving range and basically practices doing that...hmmm) and struggles to break 100.

When you get into the endzone, act like you've been there before.

Yes. Here until late August, then to Maine for a couple of weeks, then back here for the first 3 home games.

I'm open August 1,2 and 5 if any of you guys want to get a round happening.

I'm good for all 3 dates- the 2nd would be best as I have to drop off a friend at JIA at 10 AM then can meet up.

The 5th is a Sunday, why not shoot for that? Where's JagsorDie? He hasn't posted all week. Maybe he and I can take on you and NYC?

I'm good with that Sunday if Rico can work it out.

We can work it out,
We can work it out.

Life is very short, and there's no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend.
I have always thought that it's a crime,
So I will ask you once again.

Oh wait...yeah...I can make it.

Actually played at Slammer and Squire after work yesterday. If I had putted worth a [BLEEP] I would have broken 90. Still, I'll take a 92 any day.

I could probably swing that if we want to play on Thursday 8/2 instead. In fact, my wife likes that better because I'm home all weekend. Slammer and Squire and King and Bear are both running some really good summertime afternoon specials. We teed off at 4:04 yesterday and finished in plenty of time.

I've played S/S and K/B once each and would love to go back (at the right price). I remember liking the K/B more.

Either day 8/2 or 8/5 works for me.

I’m out for August 2 now unfortunately.
Good for the 5th though.

I'm still good either day. Rico- as we get closer can you handle the arrangements, i.e. tee time?

The new golf bag that I ordered, arrived via FedEx yesterday. That should improve my score by...what...5-10 strokes?

Depends on how many beer cans you can fit in it.

The ideal golf bag would have an insulated sleeve running the length of it into which you could slide 6 cans of beer. There's plenty of room for it, just take out some of the clubs, we only use half of them anyway.
