Jags trade back?
|
Trying to think of situations where the Jags would be able to trade back in the first. Right now I am thinking of someone (Vikings, Raiders) falling in love with a QB and giving up a 2nd or a 3rd to move up a couple of spaces. If St. Louis stays put, although unlikely, there is a possibility that either 2 of the top 3 QBs are still around, or the top defensive prospect. Even if they do trade out, there might be only 1 of the top QBs left at our spot (I am looking at Minnesota or Oakland).
Would you be happy with an extra 2nd or 3rd round pick (as opposed to another 1st) to slide back 3-4 spots and pick up someone like Mack out of Buffalo?

Depends...if said QB can be a franchise guy the Jags better pick him and move on...we have one of the worst (if not the worst) QB situations in the league and have for a long time...as a team we have never had a true franchise QB ever (sorry Brunnel fans...he was not a Franchise guy)...
I am suggesting this with speculating that the Jags front office is not enamored with the QB prospects. Obviously, if they feel like their guy is there, they need to take him. I am beginning to think that the Jags are not necessarily in a rush to snag a QB the way we fans are. I wouldn't be surprised if they wait to take one until the 2nd or 3rd, which would make things a whole lot easier if they had an extra pick.

If they don't like a QB then trading back is a great idea if they feel they can still get an impact player which they should be able to with just a few spots dropping...as a team we have a lot of needs to extra picks are always nice.
while they may not be in a hurry to get a QB, they may want to rethink...to many 3 - 5 win seasons and we will be talking about our next GM and who are next coach is...
It wouldn't surprise me to see a trade back if the price is right. Regardless of who the 1st 2 picks turn out to be, there really isn't a player in this draft class who is without questionmarks. Clowney may be the greatest talent at pass rusher since Reggie White, but Bradley and
Caldwell want guys who "love football" and you have to wonder if Clowney does. Barr or Mack may turn out to be just as good as Clowney and if the Jags can get 1 of these plus an extra 2nd rounder, why not do it? That being said, I would be happiest if Bridgewater is available and the Jags select him since he appears to have the lowest bust potential of any q.b. and also has a very high ceiling. I wouldn't be opposed to trading back if they feel there is no value of a pick at 3. But not for another 3rd. It would have to be another 2nd and a 4th or 5th. I wouldn't move back for another 3rd and 5th or 6th.
Let's Get Em!!!! Go Jags!
I don't think I'd want to move any further back than Tampa or Minnesota if our QB wasn't there at 3.
If a quarterback named Johnny Manziel or Teddy Bridgewater is available at #3 and David Caldwell loves him, he has no reason to trade down even if somebody offers a Julio Jones or Robert Griffin deal. After them and Blake Bortles, there are no quarterbacks worth picking in the first round.
What we need to do is trade a fourth round pick to the Browns to move up four spots in the second round. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
"Waiter, I'll have the trade back for a kings ransom to start. And the the trade up for a pittance for dessert."
"Sir, I'm sorry but we are completely sold out.... We have a fine unicorn steak tonight though." This sounded funnier in my head.
Your scenario would be ideal as long as we receive a second. Trading back to five through nine and getting Mack and an extra second would be awesome. I just don't see it happening with a needs drafting GM in Caldwell.

No way we should trade back outside of the Browns giving us both their 1st round picks and a first next year.
Clowney, Bridgewater or Manziel we got a shot at any of them at 3, pick who is there

It really depends on the answer to two questions
Does Caldwell think any of the qbs could be his guy If he takes any of the top 3 bortles Bridgewater Manziel.... Even carr if he impressed Bradley in the senior bowl I will support it regardless of my personal reservations about Carr and Manziel and the fact that I think bortles is a top 10 not top 5 pick If the answer is no does he think they can motivate clowney Regardless of his talent if he wasn't committed I would rather have a fully committed Khalil Mack than a lazy Clowney If not trade back with the vikes for their second and a 4th Mack bortles watkins and Barr have all been mocked at 8 and I think each are good value for the pick We show less advertisements to registered users. I'd be happier with a trade-back over anything. Maybe a spot-swap with Cleveland; or Minnesota/Oakland trading up for a QB.

We can get more picks by trading with the Raiders, who will want to leapfrog the Browns. Quote:I hate spot swaps. What is the purpose? We can get more picks by trading with the Raiders, who will want to leapfrog the Browns. Spot swaps is pretty much when the team behind you trades for the player your about to pick, essentially. Try not to think of it as a pick trade, but more of a player trade. Example: Say the team with the second pick wants the player the team with the number one pick is getting. In this case, they're trading for the player, not the pick. Those kind of deals can actually get the team trading back a lot of value, and considering Cleveland has another first rounder, they'd probably trade it. But if Houston picks Clowney and St. Louis gets Matthews; then the number 3 pick would be the prime QB slot. Trading the #3 with the #4 still leaves 2 of the three big QB's, so Minnesota or Oakland still might trade with Jax afterwards. Please don't take this scenario too seriously though, there are next to no chances of it happening and it's wishful thinking on my part. u_____u We show less advertisements to registered users. We can get more picks by trading with the Raiders, who will want to leapfrog the Browns.By trading back only one spot (spot swap), the Browns would pick up their targeted player not being targeted by the Jags, and the Jags pick up an additional pick(s) in the draft. The Jags get their guy at pick #4 without risk someone else chooses the player. If you trade back beyond pick #4 in this example, the Jags would be risking their targeted player is gone before they pick.
But if the Browns want the same player we do, why would we be willing to trade with them? That is a guarantee we will not pick who we want.
