Cousins' deal would have shredded this talented defensive roster in 2019 and made it even thinner in 2020.

We'd have had 2018 as a one and done chance to win it all -  and the team clearly was hoping for greater sustainability than that.

Logic and reason doesn't work with you and your ilk, I quit trying that route about 10 years ago. Now it's just mockery and derision.

Already hashed this out months ago. It's not a myth. You just kept leaving the gaping difference in guaranteed money out to suit your narrative.

It's a shame i'm even bothering to explain it to some moron that only shows up here to whine and moan after losses, much less doing it again for you.

That talented D the Chiefs just destroyed?
Those deals I posted take more space than Cousins deal, no to mention we can live without a few defensive players.

I guess the Vikes are gonna cut Barr, Griffen, Rhodes, etc in the next few years thanks to Cousins

Lol, they haven't won as many as the Jags WITH that huge contract.

Shame you only come around to whine or you'd have seen this debunked in multiple threads already.

Nope, we actually just did again it like last week in the other forum. You trying to turn a 3 (three) year fully guaranteed deal out to be some 6-7 year monstrosity is the problem. Cousins' deal is barely more prohibitive than Bortles' is for keeping a defense together, and his talent is several tiers better.

I get that it is easier to brush a bad FO decision under the rug by trying to make Cousins deal sound like some boogey monster that it really isn't, but the problem is that it's not the truth.

You are right, just look at all those garbage/Bortles level QBs who have won the SB in the last few years with average contracts....

Let's say you're right, it makes even more stupid the choice of Fournette over Mahomes or even Watson. Don't even bring that "no one knew Mahomes would be this good" because the Chiefs did trade a lot to get him, it's just that our scouts and GM are inept.

LOL

The truth??  It's simple freakin math. You keep trying to twist this [BLEEP].  Blake's contract is $57.5 million dollars less in guaranteed money.  You can't keep sweeping that under the rug. He also has an out after 2019 that will let them start a young QB in 2020 on a cheap rookie deal.

In comparison - Cousins' salary in 2020 is 31 million - in a year when Ramsey and Ngakoue are due.

You can try to spin this crap all night, but it's stupid. And I didn't even hate the idea of Cousins in teal, I just understand why they didn't do it.

Bortles cap hit is 21 mil in 2019 and 23 mil in 2020, while Cousins is 29 and 31

Can't imagine that 8 million is going to cause this team to cut every good player.

Sure, you probably lose a Church and a Dareus, but that's nothing when you actually have a respectable offense.

Give me Cousins over Ngakue, Jackson, Norwell and all those guys on the op.

Exactly

Vikes are gonna be Cousins and a bunch of undrafted free agents in a few years according to this board.

Actually - If I dig around enough I can find you a pre draft thread where I said I liked Mahomes ahead of Trubisky and I'd be happy if the Jags traded down with Philly or Ariz to take him. (he went a few spots before those picks anyway)

I said I didn't like a RB at #4.

I don't believe "know one knew he'd be good."  And I've been outspoken about Bortles' deficiencies.

I just understand why the Jags valued defensive longevity over breaking the bank on a FA QB. That's all.

Winning with a QB like bortles is rare historically, I know that.  But it takes this type of defense to do it, even if they had a crapfest day against the hottest offense in the league today.

I do not care about guaranteed money when we're talking three year deals. I don't get why you can't understand that. We're not cutting Bortles and leaving 16.5 mil in dead cap, so year 2 might as well be guaranteed even if it is not "guaranteed".

Literally the only scenario that the guaranteed money matters is if Bortles is so bad that we want to cut him in year 3. And obviously if he's been so bad that we want to cut him and start over again at QB smack in the middle of a championship window then the entire debate is dead on arrival to begin with.
