2 3rd Rounders for a guy who was going to leave anyways

3rd and a 5th.  Both are going to be late in the round if not the last pick in each round.  I don't think we got enough here.

We were going to get a 4th at best as a compensatory pick for him, assuming we signed no one else that would cancel that pick out. This is a good trade for us.

At least we didn’t give him away. Better than letting him walk. Now please stay healthy Yannick

Agreed, it is obvious we we're going to let him walk. It is also important to note that compensatory picks are a year behind. This was for a 2019 3rd and 2020 5th... If we even got a compensatory pick, it would be in the 2020 draft and probably either a 4th or 5th round pick, depending on how aggressive we are in free agency.

Going by approximate draft value, a 3rd round pick in 2019 is approximately worth a 2nd round pick in 2020. So this was a very good trade for us.

Hey! Pleasant surprise. Didn't think anyone would go for it.
It's probably a very late third, but I think a third and a (down the road) fifth is some positive ammunition to better equip the offense.

Good point on the potential compensatory pick from Fowler walking in free agency not being realized until 2020.  That makes this deal make a little more sense to me.
