Senior Bowl practice notes
|
Is anyone going to the game? It's a 6hr drive for me from Shreveport, La. I'm thinking about going.

Quote:All this tweeting about who the Jags coaches like could tip off other teams when it comes to the draft causing us to miss out on some of those players.Im sure other teams have scouts at the game. I think youre looking to hard into this. Sure Gus gets a better look but other teams are still getting good evaluations on the players. Could also be smoke screens. Oh the joy of the deception/strategy that is the pre draft shuffle

Quote:I'm sure we have met with more but Walter Football is reporting we have had meetings with: I keep hearing good things about CJ Fiedorowicz ![]() Quote:Well if what he's saying is true, I guess it will translate to an easy win for the South, right? I agree with this. All of this talk about how the coaches are doing at the Senior, that means they better win. I think the South wins this game. Everyone is saying how much better the QBs are, so it should be no problem.
Roster Watch top 10 thoughts of day 3 at the senior bowl
10. We are getting the distinct, VERY strong impression that Arthur Jones is DONE as a member of the #Ravens 9. #Hawkeyes TE CJ Fiedorowicz is officially impossible to ignore. Pay attention. He's in the running as best prospect in Mobile this week. 8. WR Robert Herron #Wyoming recovered from horrible drops through TUES and start of WED practices w/ 2 sick catches on bad Tajh Boyd throws 7. Chris Borland LB #Badgers will be a Pro Bowl special teams player at the very least with Zach Thomas upside. 6. We've identified (in much the same way as Kyle Long in 2013), Michael Schofield #Michigan OT as this year's BIG @seniorbowl OL sleeper. 5. #Hawkeyes LB Christian Kirksey just keeps popping up in our notes over and over. It's time our followers recognize he's had a sick week. 4. 55% completion % through a huge sampling in college = about 55% completion % in the Senior Bowl for Miami QB Stephen Morris. ROUGH week. 3. We told you and told you. Now it's confirmed. Charles Sims, RB #WVU is a mix of Darren McFadden and Donald Brown. 2. Dunno if it's Aaron Donald & Da'Quan Jones looking so good, or Cyril Richardson looking bad- but Richardson's struggled last two days. 1. Derek Carr vs. Jimmy Garoppolo is is now the topic of discussion when naming the top QB through 3 days of practices. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Well if what he's saying is true, I guess it will translate to an easy win for the South, right? I'm not sure how a few days of practice followed by a game played like a preseason game should really decide who the best coach is
Kind of surprising to hear Richardson struggling so badly. From tape he looked dominant in his bowl game against UCF.
I like Gabe Jackson, but I just don't feel he is a proper fit for the Jaguars. He's in the Chris Naeole mold. He's more of a mauler who is probably a better right guard and is more suited for a power scheme than a zone scheme.
@dpbrugler: FWIW, one NFL personnel guy told me this week that this is the "worst group of Senior Bowl prospects in 20 years" #NFLDraft
Hmmm.

Quote:@dpbrugler: FWIW, one NFL personnel guy told me this week that this is the "worst group of Senior Bowl prospects in 20 years" #NFLDraftI usually ignore this type of hyperbole. That's laughable at best. "A man with no sauce is lost.
<p style="text-align:center;">But that same man can get lost in the sauce."
Quote:I usually ignore this type of hyperbole. That's laughable at best. Could easily be true ith how many prospects aren't attending. Usually there are about 10 first rounders at the senior bowl. Don't see this crop approaching that number. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:@dpbrugler: FWIW, one NFL personnel guy told me this week that this is the "worst group of Senior Bowl prospects in 20 years" #NFLDraft Not surprised to see this kind of observation...over the course of time the record number of underclassmen keeps getting broken. The NFL wants to start a developmental league to divide college football away from money-hungry football players. College football would either vanish or become a conceptual football magnet program, where only the best and the brightest players will be allowed in. Something has to be done to end the yearly hustle NFL owners face. They're paying through the nostrils for over-rated, over-hyped money-hungry athletes who sign the deal and vanish.

Remember though, this team is not an exclusively zone-blocking team. They use both Power or Gap and Zone, which is to their advantage once the personnel understand how to work within that system. I'm not saying that makes Richardson a good fit for this team, but simply pointing out a detail.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!
Quote:Remember though, this team is not an exclusively zone-blocking team. They use both Power or Gap and Zone, which is to their advantage once the personnel understand how to work within that system. Yeah, I feel Richardson is a good fit in either system. I've felt that Gabe Jackson isn't quick enough or good enough in space for a zone scheme. I could be wrong, but it looked that way to me when watching him. As far as our scheme goes, who knows, lol. We started out with a zone scheme and only integrated when our team struggled to transition. I don't know if what we saw this year will be our actual offense in the future or if it was an adjustment. Quote:Roster Watch top 10 thoughts of day 3 at the senior bowl CJ was sorely misused as an Iowa Hawkeye. I can't tell you why. He's got size, athleticism, blocking ability, he can catch and make plays, I don't know what held him back. That concerns me a little when Iowa has been pretty good with TE's in the past in the passing game. He's a future TD machine. Kirksey may be one of my favorite Hawkeyes. MLB James Morris received a lot of the attention (deserved, he played well and came up with key plays) but Kirksey made that defense. He's a future player at the NFL level…and he's reliable. Quote:Not surprised to see this kind of observation...over the course of time the record number of underclassmen keeps getting broken. Sensationalism aside, there are some good points here. The best of the best are foregoing their senior (and sometimes junior) seasons to bolt for the NFL at an increasing rate it seems.
"You do your own thing in your own time. You should be proud."
It only makes sense that the senior-only talent at this year's Senior Bowl is down. Last year, a record 73 underclassmen gave up their college eligibility and declared to go pro.
It will be even worse next year for the Senior Bowl talent, as 102 underclassmen, a significant jump and new record again, declared for the draft this year.
Quote:I usually ignore this type of hyperbole. That's laughable at best. Pretty much everything coming out from now til the Draft will be hyperbole. Can't just ignore it if it doesn't vibe with your own views. |
