Quote:I have been on the Dee Ford bandwagon for a while now.  I knew he was going to destroy the competition at the Senior Bowl.  I think a few years down the road people are going to be saying...how did this guy fall to the late first round.

ok good u been on him, but I know a lot of people fall for what a guy did at the SR. Bowl or Combine and hype them up every year but over look other players that has been doing great all year. By March we will have a better idea of who is gonna go in the top 5 - 10 Ford might jump up there then, its still early tho.

What I really hope happens is he comes to the combine and doesn't overwhelm people with his measurables causing him to drop to the second.  Not likely, but we will see.

Ford is a first round guy. He was before the senior bowl

Quote:His point is if Caldwell does all of his homework and still picks him at three, the pick will be almost universally panned if the "experts" still have him projected in the 2nd round.

Because value will be left on the board. If the rest of the league sees him as a 2nd rounder and we pick him at 3, we blew a scenario where we could have picked another player at 3 with proper value and still get Irvin in the late first by a small trade up.

Quote:You mean like that Aulualu pick? You cant fall in love with a guy and just pick him, Caldwell is not gonna pick Ford at 3 if every team has him graded as a late 1st early 2nd, thats just bad drafting, the draft is about value, you lose too much value passing on better players just to draft a guy you like but nobody else is thinking about drafting anytime in the next 20 picks

Thank you. He gets it.

Quote:I didn't get to see the game but am looking at the final stats.

David Fales.......6/7........104yds..........14.9avg.........1 TD.........1 Int.

Derek Carr.........7/11........45yds..........4.1avg...........1 TD...........0 Int.

Jimmy Garoppolo..........6/12........32yds.......2.7avg........0 TD.........0 Int.

Did Fales look really that bad?

I think this is one of those examples where stats don't accurately tell the whole story. Fales got the bulk of his stats on 2 plays to wide open receivers.

Per the eye test in this game, Jimmy Garoppalo looked the part of NFL QB the best. He looked natural under Center, fluid with his dropback, textbook delivery, compact quick release, good velocity on his passes as well as decent passing accuracy on the run.

Gimme my QB or my LEO. We might be able to land both within the first two rounds

Quote:Would LOVE to see the Jags trade back in this draft. Mid to late teens, add picks and take Ford there. Could end up with a ton of high picks.
If Clowney and Bridgewater are both gone, I agree with you. With all the underclassmen, getting at least an extra 2nd rounder to move back about 10 spots would enable the Jags to get Dee Ford in the 1st, Garropolo and the BAP in the 2nd and a couple other potential starters with their 3 picks in the 3rd and 4th. Coupled with the excellent draft they had last year, this roster would be very competitive with most teams in the NFL. If Garropolo turns out to be the real deal, I could see the Jags in the playoffs in 2 years. If not, they can draft another q.b. next year from among Mariotta, Winston, Hundley and a couple other risers.

I love how you act like trade downs / trade ups are just automatic. I'd love to trade down and get the player. That's a given. I'm saying if a trade is not available, don't pass on "your" guy.

If the Jags draft player X at the top of the first round and he ends up being a HOFer, ask me how much care that he was drafted too early.

I know you and the other knee-jerk reactionists will cry about it until the cows come home, but I'm not as worried about that.

Sure, if you can trade down and get the best player on your board, have at it. But if you cannot, just get your player.

Ends justify the means sorta thing.

Trades in the draft happen all the time, especially the kind that I am speaking of. If our GM is worth his salt, he'll be able to manuever effectively in the draft to get the players he wants while still maintaining proper value.

The problem is if Clowney and Bridgewater are both gone, who's going to want to trade up? Who's worth trading up for? Maybe some team trades up for Manziel or Bortles but I wouldn't count on that.

Cleveland might even trade up for Manziel if they fear us taking him enough. Years ago Cleveland gave up a 2nd rounder to Detroit to move up one spot because they thought the Lions were going to take Winslow.

That's a stretch of that happening and I wouldn't bet my draft strategy on that scenario.

No way Ford goes in the top 15.  He's a very undersized DE.  Even though he's a very good player, GMs don't like that.  To counter his size, he must put up insane numbers at the combine.

Something like Bruce Irvin did.. he ran a 4.41s forty at 245 lbs... which is unheard of.  I don't think Ford gets close to that.  He'll be a late 1st or early 2nd rounder.

I came away from this Senior Bowl a bit disappointed.

For every trade that happens, there are many more that don't.

Please TMD, don't let this be a case of you laying the groundwork for another contrived criticism.

Yes, though I won't count on that.

Under the right circumstances, I might be content with a swap of second round picks to move down a spot.
