Quote:Fire pit = good, I'm with ya there... And not adding fuel to the fire because I've read to the end of this thread already. But maybe some people just acquire the taste later than others. I had never been a wine drinker until ...maybe...ten years ago. I always thought it was kind of foo-foo..and..oh...whatever. Then I went to a wine tasting with my next door neighbor (I didn't want to go) and it was nothing like what I expected. I had a freakin' blast. And what a great place to figure out what types of wine that you like. Free wine, free finger food, and a dozen or so free drinks of wine. So don't knock it until you've tried it. I now have a couple of favorite wineries. You want some tasty wine and aren't an experienced wine drinker, check out Stone Villa Winery. I'll give you some recommendations. If you're going to 'take up drinking wine', go to a winery and get free samples. Wine is just awesome for couples kind of get togethers around a...ready?....fire. Nice mellow buzz and perfect for the evening. So, before you decided on any pre-concieved notions about wine....try some and find some you like. I agree with Rico on the wine. ^
I had a slight aversion to it and the associated / assumed snobbery that doesn't necessarily come with it 15 years ago - and now I have a dozen different go-to wines that I love for different foods or occasions. I visited a friend in Napa Valley two years ago and learned a lot. Got to walk through the Mondavi vineyard and talk grapes with the local experts and try a load of excellent wines. Highly recommended to anyone who likes California Cabernets. (They have some excellent Chardonnays too - but they're not my style.)
I too thought wine drinkers were uppity but after being around my parents who acquired a wine taste that got me into like a few wines. Now my wife and I enjoy several differnt good wines. Some even local. We aren't snobs. But hey, it tastes good, even out by our fire pit. Don't get me wrong, I still like my beer. But I enjoy a nice glass of wine.
Sissy! (Can you tell I'm divorced?)

Glad to see there are some wine drinkers on the board, drink up my friends!
Of course there are snobby wine drinkers, trust me I deal with those folks pretty regularly, but there are also snobby beer drinkers, scotch drinkers, coffee drinkers and snobby anything else you want. But wine snobs aren't as numerous as most assume. Learn to chuckle and (TMD) don't blame the wine! Quote:Your new system is modeled directly off ours. In 1973 I drank a bottle of Lancers White wine and smoked a fat tater before the Led Zeppelin concert at the old Veteran's Memorial Coliseum. Somehow, that combination gave me the worst headache I've ever experienced. Thankfully it cleared right before John Bonham opened the show with Rock and Roll. Those drums would have made my head explode.

I was so excited to get into work this morning that I was over an hour early.
Well, that and it was raining so I couldn't do my morning walk. ![]() |
