Quincy Williams with the 99th pick

from from what Ian Rap is now saying, the kid was very much in demand, took many visits, and could have gone in the 4th.  So be it.  Not my choice, but they’ve knocked this draft out of the park, really.

The first bad pick. It signals they don’t believe anyone else in the draft can compete for a non special teams role so they’re just looking for camp fodder. I hate that strategy. Hakeem Butler, the Alabama safety, heck even some decent running backs were on the board. Williams would probably have been available in round 5 or later.

Sam Mills was the 1st person came to mind when I saw his measurables.

But Quinnen Williams' Big Brother... Let that sink in.

It would be crazy if he ends up having a more decorated career than his Top 3 pick of a brother.  Here Quincy is, this jewel in the rough.

It'll be interesting to see this kid in training camp. He seems to be a tweener at this level. But he loves to hit. Good size, good speed.

He was a late 3rd RD pick. Had he been the 69th overall pick I could understand the concern. But at that point he was nearly a 4th RD pick.

I am happy with Allen, Taylor and Oliver. I really feel by the end of next year this fanbase will be happy with what these guys do as a rookie and in their 2nd years.

This pick though is still interesting. Especially with people talking about Telvin Smith possibly being on the way out. Which is possible. We have to maintain 2016's trio of Ramsey, Jack and Ngakoue. That's critical to keeping each level on our defense competitive moving forward.

Bouye, Smith and Campbell will more than likely be gone by the 2020 season opener. Bryan, Allen, Harrison and Williams will all be expected to start at some point in higher volumes.

Sounds like this is very much a scouts pick. Just have to see how it turns out.

Here's an interesting tidbit...Quincy Williams was a 6' 215 lb DB his first 4 years in college, then lost 2" of height and gained 24 pounds to play LB his redshirt senior season. (click on the Historical tab)

That's some elite training and discipline, right there.

How do you lose height? I know you can buy a rack and stretch somebody a couple of inches (we did it to my friend Bob Saccamento back in college) but how do you shorten someone?

Yeah this sounds very much like when we reached on Alualu and people started clinging to the "Cowboys were upset that they couldn't take Alualu" rumors.

And as far as the official visits go, most teams do take a handful guys that they want to lure as priority UDFA on official visits. It helps to attract said player if he has some comfort level with the team, coaches, city, facilities, etc. I would bet almost all of those 11 visits Williams went on were with that in mind.

With no invite to the combine, that's how the teams got to take a good look at him.

I have to admit, my knee jerk reaction to this guy was - WHO??! Thought it was a wasted pick. Watching him in his games, he looks like he should be playing division 1. Dude is physical, takes solid angles, and is an athletic freak. He is a thumper and I miss those in the NFL, seem to be few and far between these days. I honestly hope he pans out for us, seems he will fit right in here.

I Love this pick especially now that I know he's listed as an Safety. He truly brings the wood.

Sure, but they made a decision with the info they had.  Let the guy take an NFL snap at least before crucifying the FO.  The truth is no one has access to all the teams boards which means you can't possibly know whether or not several teams at the top of the 4th might've been interested in him.

What's amazing is no one knew anything about him and now we have to listen to uninformed want a be GM's tell us why the pick was so bad and how we wasted it on a player they know nothing about. I for one will go with the front office and the scouts that evaluated him putting in many hours deciding his value.

Did you feel that way with Tanner Lee?  I thought he was a terrible pick.  I got a bunch of people last year saying "the Jaguars front office has professional scouts and know what they are doing..blah..blah..blah...".  Guess what?  He got cut.  I was right.  Those professionals in the front office were wrong.  That's just from last year.  There's plenty of examples from the past as well.

That being said, I'll be the first to admit that I can be wrong.  In this case, I hope I am wrong.  However, this board is here to express our opinions.  My opinion is that this pick sucks.  If you are just going to blindly like every pick the Jaguars make, then there's no point in these message boards.

He was the 98th overall pick.  Ronnie Harrison (who may be our starting strong safety for the next decade) was only 5 picks higher last year.  Do you think Qunicy Williams can even carry Ronnie Harrison's jock strap?  The year before, we got Dede Westbrook (a projected starter) at 110. Smart teams don't draft a special teams player at #98.

Tanner Lee who is still on the roster? 6th round developmental QB who spent the season here Tanner Lee? That's your gripe?

Outside QB, no one drafts players to be starters for 10 years any more. The number of players who even play 10 years in the NFL is infinitesimal.

Jags are saying he be a very good special teams players on day 1. Dede didn't play until game 10 and was forced into starting because of injuries 2017. Before that he was a good special teams player. They aren't saying he always only be a special teams player. Harrison only started for a few games and not until week 13.

Special teams is very important for how this team plays. Jags were 10th worst in punt return yards per attempt. You can't be a defense/field position team if you give up punt return yards.

Quincy played in 1 game (NFLPA 2019) with other prospects and did well enough there that he garnered attention by multiple NFL teams. Did you watch that game? We can barely find some clips on him, how have you graded him already as not being a good player?

First, Tanner Lee is ONE OF MANY EXAMPLES where the fans were right and the team of experts were wrong.  Second, you seriously want to make the argument that Tanner Lee was a good pick!?!?!?!?!  He got cut from the original 53 man roster and if you watched the preseason, it wasn't even remotely close.  He looked absolutely terrible.  Not a single other team wanted him for their active roster, not even as a third stringer, not even mid-season after injuries started to pile up across the league.  He never took a regular season snap for the Jaguars and seems extremely unlikely that he ever will.  Are you aware that they just spent a draft pick to replace him?  As a matter of fact, Lee might not even be on the roster as of right now.  If he hasn't been cut yet, it's just a matter of time.  Granted, Lee was only a 6th rounder, but it was an absolutely lousy pick and many "armchair GM's" knew it immediately.  The team of professional experts in Jaguars organization obviously did not.

watched two full games of his, very meh. For a FCS 3rd rounder he doesn't pop off the screen like he should
