Did they ever finish the 295 loop around Jacksonville?

Quote:Yes. JTB is what I usually say too. I said it to one of my younger cousins (18 y.o.) and she looked at me like I was crazy. Her Mom chimed in with "Butler Blvd" and she got it. When did the switch happen? Before everyone called it JTB...then poof, it's Butler! It's JTB dag nabbit!!!

Same thing here in Massachusetts- the Tobin Bridge will always be the Mystic Bridge to me and a million others.
Whenever I refer to the stadium in Jax, I still tend to call it Alltel.
Season Ticket holder since 2004.

Quote:I believe the bridge was there before the Interstate was. Gotcha, makes sense. Quote:Didn't one of the police boats crash into it and seriously injured the driver and then they decided to demolish the rest? I think that's part of the reason why the barrier was put up around the old pilings. I may be wrong.

I still call the eastern part of the loop 9A occasionally. And now there's 9B to contend with. That's moving along quite nicely, although the way they shift the lanes on 295 to handle the traffic has already caused quite a few accidents with the left lane merging just north of the interchange. Right now, 9B at least gets you south of Bayard on US1 if you're headed to St. Augustine.
Wonderwood was a great idea. The execution is flawed because it starts in Arlington where Merrill and Ft.Caroline come together. They did such a lousy job of widening that stretch of road that as it's settled, it's a series of dips and bumps that make it a lousy drive until you get past Monument. They've had to go back and repair quite a bit of it, but the issues persist. Building an expressway on what amounts to swampland will do that. The one that always gets me is the Dames Point Bridge. It's the Napolean Bonaparte Broward Bridge, but good luck finding anyone who calls it that in this area. The old Fuller Warren with the draw bridge and the tolls was a nightmare. 29 years ago Wednesday, I was stuck on the span as I was driving to St. Vincents to see my dad who was dying. I had taken the bridge to get over there after leaving class at UNF, and figured that was the quickest route. My dad died while I was sitting on the bridge stuck in traffic so a sailboat could slowly navigate through. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

It's a straight shot - yet it's Wonderwood, then McCormick and then Merrill Road. It's unclear where one ends and another begins. It's not easy explaining some oft his stuff to people not familiar with the area. And I love having a river that doesn't go strictly north and south. That bend in the river makes it hard to explain to people at times the whole north, south, east and west part of Jacksonville.
The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.
Heard the traffic chick on the radio the other day say traffic was heavy on SJB.
I guess if it's ok for JTB & MLK we can do it for all the roads around town.... ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Some of the road improvements around Jax in the last few years or so I can give a thumbs up for is......
* The I-95 -I10 interchange and loop. The only drawback I hate is when im driving eastbound on I10 before the interchange, I always manage to get into a near collision with someone ahead of me because they are afraid they are taking the wrong exit (usually its involving I10 to 95 North. * San Marco Blvd going to Baptist. That area always flooded whenever a 1/2 of rain fell. I remember around the Square near BOA (towards Hendricks Ave.) it was horrible. Im glad the construction help alleviate it alot. * The new bridge on 17 over Doctors Inlet * I would always avoid FI at certain times because that bridge was narrow and was a nightmare. * Beach Blvd widening from Kernan to the Intercoastal* That project seemed like it took forever and it was always congested even on a Wednesday at 2pm. * The Flyover ramp from Arlington Expressway EB to Southside Blvd.* * New 295/ Collins road & Blanding Blvd exits ramps* I would sit in traffic for about 25 min on 295 trying to exit onto Blanding south. This was very much needed.

Quote:Is that supposed to be St.John's Bluff? Never heard that one before...Yeah me neither...it was odd. I guess for them 3 letter acronyms is easier than saying the same road name over and over? Quote:Some of the road improvements around Jax in the last few years or so I can give a thumbs up for is......The I-10 I-95 interchange is one of the worst I've seen. You can go either way, right or left exit. It's extremely confusing. You're tooling along down I-95S and you are going to I-10 W. There are signs for the far right lanes to exit...later, there are signs on the far left to exit for I-10W, same for I-10E to I-95 North or South AAARGGGHHH surprised there aren't more Canadians involved in accidents around there! ![]() Quote:Some of the road improvements around Jax in the last few years or so I can give a thumbs up for is...... Get yourself out of OP and you'll be much happier. I don't understand how folks get around town having to go in/out of that parking lot to get anywhere and back.

Quote: I can't stand that they have exits for 95S on both the left and right either off 10E, but the reason is that the folks coming on from Roosevelt could never get all the way over to make the left exit. And you're right, the 10E to 95N multiple exits are also confusing. The intent was to have a flyover for those who didn't need the downtown exits, but if you want the downtown exits you have to first take the (left) 95S ramp momentarily to get there. I'm surprised we haven't seen a pileup yet. It's a mess even for those of us who drive it everyday and do understand it.

The new I-10/I-95 exchange won a top award given by the USDOT for design, as well as another for finishing 6 months ahead of schedule. I'm disappointed to hear it is confusing, as I remember the old exchange and what a nightmare it could become at rush hour.
