Because its stupid. I could have understood a 5 year or so grace period to keep 8, 71, & 82 out of rotation, but its been like double that now and the numbers are still not in use. Those players were very good at the time, but none will be HOF'ers and no superbowls were won for Jax or even reached during that time, so its lame to continue to keep those numbers out of circulation.

Reggie White Kevin Greene Bruce Smith would always start the game against Tony but would also go to the other side because that was Marks Blind Side and they knew most the time they were not getting by Tony. Look im not saying he wasnt a great lineman Im just saying you cant Judge his numbers and his dominance the same as other LT because his QB was left handed. I think Leon Searcy deserves alot of what Tony gets because he had Marks Blide side and as many ppl claim Mark didnt get sacked much and they say it was Tonys doing but Searcy was just as good. I think Tonys careere was cut short but what he has done to help promote the Jags and help the orginization out he should be up there, i was just disputing the Angry Puppys assertion that to be up there had to be elite for a long time.

 

Reggie White was a LDE by trade, Greene played weakside linebacker, and Bruce Smith was famously destroyed by Tony Boselli in the Farewell to Jim Kelly game in January 1997. Yes, Searcy was absolutely important to this team, but Boselli was better.

Don't get me wrong, I was a fan of Brunell both as a player and since then as he's been a model Jaguar....

 

But the Pride should only be for truly "great" Jaguar players. Brunell was good, indeed, but was by no means on the level of Taylor or Boselli regarding their stature to their positions. 

 

This reaks of desperation. Something the Carolina Panthers might do, ala the Sam Mills statue...

Jimmy Smith should be in the ring before Brunell.  Heck, I would put Rasheen in there before him.

 

I just dont think he was an elite enough player.  A qb is always the face of the franchise.   That roster made Brunell elite.

I am a little surprised, but glad to see it.   He was an exciting player to watch on the field.   He had the WRs and the RB.  They could really make it go in the early years.

Mark is a central figure in most of the franchise's magical moments, and an integral part of Jimmy Smith's and Keenan McCardell's success. Bottom line, the Jaguars would not have had the success of that era without Brunell.

 

He has also done many good things in the community.

 

He may not mean much to you up there in New Jersey, or wherever you live, but he is and was an icon in Jacksonville, even when you consider the criticism he received late in his days there. I don't usually play this card, but in this case you really had to be in Jacksonville during those days to get it.

 

He made me proud to be a Jaguar fan.

There's nothing wrong with wanting our ring of honor to be more selective. Brunell was good but he was never on Freddy T or Boselli's level. Once you start to admit players that were good but not "special" it sort of devalues the whole thing.
